newbie, Klasse application questions

KSG is Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze. Just like the name states it is a glossy sealant. If you are looking for a Deep wet look KSG is not for you. Adding more layers of KSG will brighten and enhance the glossy look of the paint. It does seem to a have a slight plastic wrap look on some colors and paints. You will notice a difference with a second layer; but I have noticed most change on the 3rd. I usually stop at 3 but am planning on doing 4 or so this year using a diluted KSG mixture as a test for durability.

Wow guys, thanks for all the info. I actually didn't get to the car last weekend and not sure if I will, considering the weather and my schedule. However, it's maybe better I didn't start yet because I learned more in this post that I didn't know.
So if I ever use a polish, it should be wiped down with a cleaner or alcohol to remove polish oils (and polishes are mainly for correction.) But if I just use a paint cleaner after claying, then I am OK to lay down the sealant. Is that right?
 
I wouldn't apply the KSG by machine. It's also pretty finicky about the surface prep, did you buy the KAIO, too? IMO you want to spritz the KSG onto an applicator pad, and apply it so thin you really can't see it. You will be able to feel where it's already been applied. Also IMO you want to build up 2-3 coats one day apart before you top it with a wax.



I had a quick question for you since you know about this product. You say spritz this on the applicator pad. What type of pad should I use? MF or foam? Also, when removing the glaze, should I spray QD on the MF detail cloth?
 
You can use either a foam or MF applicator. I personally don't use any QD when I remove the SG.
 
Do you apply to the whole vehicle before removing it? I know some say buff it right off but my only concern with that is it not allowing enough time to bond, no?
 
I hate to say that I forgot the name of the guy whose post on this I read, but his advice really helped when working with the klasse twins. using a foam applicator pad ( look up pinnacle foam applicator pad on the AGO store) put a nickle size amount of Klasse sg on and fold the pad in half to spread it around. I havent tried the spray method, but it sounds like a great idea. You want to apply it "whisper" thin. u'll understand what this means when u use it. But what rly helped me with the removal (after waiting 1-2 hours to dry) was using a QD (meg's ultimate worked fine for me). Have 2 MF towels on hand. After spraying the QD, immediately wipe the area with one towel, this will help spread the qd. then use the other towel to buff the area clear. Dedicate one towel as your "wet" towel and the other as your "dry" towel. Change towels when you see they streak the sealant onto a new area. You should be using at least twice as many dry towels than wet towels. Its a nuisance to juggle the 2 towels and QD, but removal took a fraction of the time. Best of luck to ya!

BTW. Klasse is known for its glossy, if not sterile, look. I found topping it with collinite 845 adds alot of depth to it.

I use a foam applicator. You want so little KSG that it looks like it's evaporating into the paint as you apply it. If it's doing that, you know you've got it right. If you can see it haze, you're probably applying it too thick, and it will be a pain to get off.

Another tip - it really truly takes about 1 ounce to do an average sized car (my Lexus LS400 - a large car - could be done with 1 ounce if I was careful and paid attention). So try this: get a couple of those little plastic 1-ounce measuring cups (AG sells them, you can also use the plastic condiment cups you find at fast food places, they are usually 1 ounce). Fill it with KSG. That's enough (more or less, depending on vehicle) to do your whole car. Spread a very thin line of it across your pad, fold to distribute, and work in until it looks like it's evaporating.

My pads happen to be square, and I lay a *very* thin line across the pad diagonally, then fold it in half.

If you apply thin enough (so that it looks like it's evaporating into the paint), you won't need a QD to get it off. In fact, the final wipe down will be quite easy.

A QD will help remove places where it's gotten too thick.
