Hi All,
I'm trying to figure out which would be the better choice for my first (hopefully only) DA. Reading all the threads, while helpful, have lead to mass confusion on my part.
I would be using this (at least at this point) on 2 newer cars. One of them Black, which only being a 1 1/2 yr old is already showing minor swirls.
Obviously, the PC is less of an investment, but want to get a machine that will hold up and do a fantastic job, so I don't have to buy another in the future.
So the question is which is the best investment for a novice doing their own detailing?
Thanks for any help!

Get a Flex….and you'll never think twice about a PC.

Get a PC, and you'll be wishing you got the Flex every time you pick it up!

If you only want one, the PC will be more versatile. You can use different backing plates and use 3", 4", 5" or 5-1/2" pads and brushes.

Absolutely agree with this. A traditional DA like the PC or GG6 is the way to go if you only have one machine. You can run it with 4" pads and 3.5 backplate for smaller areas and the 5.5 pads for larger areas. Between a PCXP and the GG, go with Griot's all the way. More capable machine.

Reviews are just starting to come on the new Meg's MT300 unit. It is supposed to be smoother and quieter than the traditional DA's like GG and XP. I would check out the reviews, I'm sure there will be more in the next few weeks. This machine might be the way to go for a traditional DA.

for some it may not make sense to spend $300+ on something if they don't use it often. so with that said, if you're only going to use the DA a few times a year and don't want to spend a lot of money then get the GG6 (more torque than the PCXP) and the warranty is fantastic as well...

Agree totally--can't beat the GG6 if you're only going to have one machine. With a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads there isn't anything it can't handle. AND, it has a lifetime warranty with excellent Griots customer service. Plenty of machine for taking care of your own cars.

I often wonder if it's smart for someone just learning to machine polish to start with a Flex forced rotation DA. The one great advantage of a traditional DA is that if you put too much pressure on the machine (especially raised edges and creases) the rotation will stop so it's pretty safe for someone starting out. With the forced rotation of the Flex you loose that ability--granted it makes correction go faster, but perhaps it's better to wait until a person has more polishing experience.

:iagree: I bought the PC 7424 XP 1st and now it is delegated to applying wax. The Flex 3401 with the interchangeable plate system is the way to go. I know you will get a lot of opinions and suggestions, I understand that....but get the Flex and be done with 2nd guessing!!

IMO and I've said this many many times, every detailer/enthusiast should own at least one traditional PC style DA...

:dblthumb2::iagree:

And get a LC 5" backing plate and LC 3.5" backing plate.

And like he said, Flex, $300.00 + and you haven't even bought the pads, backing plates, product etc yet, you'll end up being out $450.00+ just to get started. For $299.00 you could get this kit and be well on your way to paint perfection.
