Does anyone have any information or experience working with newer Ford clear coats?
I am currently working on a 2012 Raptor with 2,600 miles on it. There are no visible imperfections but I would like to get more depth and gloss out of the paint. I have used Menzerna 2500 & 4000 with LC CCS pads and a Flex DA and I cannot tell a difference on the test panel under a variety of different lights. I plan on topping this truck with EXO.

I have a 2012 edge. I personally would go with some m205 correction for light swirls, then adding a good wax. Let the wax dry a bit longer so its slightly harder to wipe off, it should add some depth

OP,

What color pads did you use with each product?

I'm guessing yes but did you haves swirls that needed removing requiring the 2500?

White with the 2500, black with the 4000. There are absolutely no swirls or scratches. I was hoping for some more DOI and gloss.

I'm interested in this also...I was just doing my 2012 Tuxedo black f150 this weekend. i ended up going with M105 with a Orange LC CCS pad, and M205 with a white LC CCS pad, using a Flex 3401 and a PC 7424. The Flex had a 6 1/2 pad, while the PC had a 4 inch....these trucks seems to have alot of tight areas. I finished off with Meguiars Gold class carnuba plus by hand application. It looks radiant! My truck as 26k miles on it and i was epecting the paint to be in alot worse shape then it was...i'm assuming Ford is using a hard clear on them...

I decided to move on from polishing and go straight to EXO. Wiped down with IPA, Eraser, and then Gtechniq's Panel Wipe. Put 2 coats of it on every exterior surface and it's looking really good right now, I think this will give me the results i was looking for.

For a DA:
Menzerna P085RD (SF4500) on a blue or black LC pad

For Rotary (Jeweling):
3M Perfect It Ultrafine Polish on an LC blue waffle pad at 1500 RPM light pressure. (As shown below after being wiped doewn with Klean Strip Prep All to remove any filling effect.

The only reason for 205 is there could be swirls and scratches that the owner does not see. After the refine, a wax would go good with a clean paint

When you get the paint in perfect condition try souveran...not the longest lasting wax...but for depth and that wet look it's supposed to be the best for that. Then use Souveran spray wax after washing. That or blacklight followed by V7. IMO

The reason I asked is that the 2500 I think is pretty close in cut to the 205.

If you are looking for gloss and depth like "truckbutt" post #10, you need to get the paint absolutely flat..no orange peel. To get that kind of gloss and clarity on that Stang, I would bet that it has been wet sanded. I would not recommend wet sanding OEM paint on a dd.

I doubt it has been wet sanded. My brilliant black Miata looked the same way after 205/ Autoglym

Thanks for all of the replies everyone! That mustang looks great Truckbutt.

Rsurfer, I agree that to make the paint any deeper I would need to wetsand. However, I don't have any wetsanding experience or a depth gauge. So, I talked to my aunt (this is her truck) and decided to just protect the paint with Gtechniq EXO. I used EXO on her Ranger a few weeks ago and she likes the idea of extremely long term protection. So I went ahead with that and the truck has 2 coats of EXO on it now, the gloss is ridiculous for not having been machine polished. I'm finishing the truck up tomorrow using quite a few other Gtechniq products.

This is going to be a truck that sits in the garage most of the time. She has the Ranger as a DD.

This has given me something to think about for mid-october when my Tangerine Scream Focus ST will arrive. The Focus will be a garaged, rarely driven car (Maybe once or twice a month). When it arrives I will trailer it home and it will be thoroughly/completely detailed & protected before it sees the road. I would like to achieve something similar to this:

Tell the dealer not to touch it. You don't want DISO (Dealer Installed Swirl Option).

I believe they went to ceramic clear around 2007. It is quite hard!
