Hello folks,

I may not be the most active member here but I will say that this forum and people have taught me a lot. Starting off as a hobby, this became an expression and then a business. The newspaper and Car Wash Magazine featured articles about my business based in Napa, California. Links are below.

Our little detailing community is filled with amazing people and I would love to network with more of you and maybe grab mentors and mates alike. Please feel free to contact me via. my e-mail, [email protected]

Once again, hold on, do your best and let things unfold. It's hard to break through but you just have to plow through.

Newspaper Article:
Robust Auto Detailing focuses on convenience, environmental health

Magazine Story:
California high-end detailing business focuses on family and the environment | Professional Carwashing & Detailing

Well wishes! :)

Cool article!

How much detailing for money did you do on the side before going full time?

I'm sure your customers appreciate your focus on quality.

Very nice article. Using distilled water takes it to the next level. Reduces water spots to practically nothing.

I'm guessing you initially carried distilled water for the steam cleaner and then realized you didn't really like carrying 2 types of water, and distilled would yield better results for you anyway.
Distlled saves time and headache, especially in So Cal, and as long as it's high end detailing, the cost makes sense.

That's outstanding thinking. $1 a gallon for distilled water.

Do you buy it in bottles or do you have your own water distiller at home? I'm curious.

Thank you all!

All of you are integral part of this community and awesome people!

@b0B: I spent about 3 years as a hobby. I used to be a mechanical engineering student so cars have always been my interest. :)

@Blackthorn: I started right off the bat with distilled water when I started the business. After studying mechanics of material in college and dynamics, I could literally hear mineral deposits screaming in my ears during buffing :P.

I recommend, myself do, buying the $1 per gallon water. You get freshly cleaned plastic bottles, no hassle of cleaning up your distiller and after looking at several commercial distillers, it made sense to buy the bottles.. After all, you can buy 300 bottles at $1 and use it for 200-400 details rather than buy a distiller worth $300 that distills about 4 gallons a day. I have tried to look for a distillation plant nearby but haven't found anything large scale. Any ideas are welcome.

If you're high-end, I recommend go distilled and rinseless/waterless. Then you can employ a one bucket method with no grit guard and no big water barrels in the back...! :P It's a win-win situation.

Now, extremely dirty wheel wells... is a nightmare!
