Next collectible car wise?

^^ Is that a kit car? ^^

No offense, but that looks nothing like the original Avanti!

Just because a car is produced in limited numbers or is a special edition does not mean it will become collectible. There are several other factors that contribute more to a car becoming collectible. Look at the Tri-5 Chevys they were produced in huge numbers as many of the other now collectible cars. It's not that easy to predict what will be sought after. Depends a whole lot on what you were brought up with.

Not a kit car...it was assembled in a factory, though they're out of production now.

Actually, it's not far removed from an original Avanti. In fact, the updated styling was done by one of the original team members that created the original design. Here's my older Avanti and you can see the same design cues, though a coupe rather than a convertible...

I always loved Avanti's, they are just kinda funky looking and thats what I liked about them. Although this is coming from a guy that likes corvair's too lol, another funky sorta car.

I really like that girl posing with the red one too haha!

'Vairs have great cool factor...never owned one but friends have and loved them.

Now THAT'S nice lookin', your hard core Avanti, huh! I saw a 63' supercharged model at this invite only car show locally that's held on Father's Day and let me tell you this, STUNNING! It was the classic turquois and it had those boring 5 spoke hubcaps too, with whitewalls. I know this, if I had one of those cars back in the day or now even, a set of 16" Torque-Thrusts would be on it for sure, in the original style with the darker center and machined lip:dblthumb2:

Now as far as other "future collectables", well, I saw one today that's just gotta be there....Solstice GXP coupe', I really forgot about those and its just a good lookin' car, even that kit they offered that made it look like an M coupe 'kinda" will be a rare find too.

I used to own a turquoise '63 Avanti for years...and it had the wheel covers you mentioned. I ended up selling it after getting married to wife 1.0 to buy a "practical" car. Later we divorced...lost the Avanti, the wife, the new car, the house...the usual stuff.

Wife 2.0 is much more tolerant and her attitude is "If it makes you happy, go ahead."

Ive always loved Corvairs too. I think they got a bad rap. They even had a factory Corvair Monza Spyder Turbo. Another late 70's collectible is the Dodge Little Red Truck. I forget the year but it was the fastest U.S. production vehicle, beat the Vette and Trans Am. The Buick With the V6 Turbo. I can't remember the name of it. And the 76-78 Trans-Am's with the big Firebirds on the hoods. Especially the Smokey and the Bandit ones.

It was the mid 80's Buick Grand National. They bring a nice buck at auction.

My vote would go for the 45th edition Iacocca Mustang. Only 45 of them were built but if I were to have any Mustang it will be this beauty. Luckily my client was able to get a hold of one. One of them went over $300,000 at an action, for a Mustang!!

I saw a special on Speed Channel with Lee Iacocca about that car. He got #001. They auctioned on off for charity that was the 300,000 dollar one. And of course Jay Leno bought one. Shelby is building a 1,000 HP Shelby Mustang. Supposedly with a top end of 225mph. Carroll Shelby said it is his goal to drive it at that speed. He's a tough old bird at 85 I think. Still involved in the daily operations of the business.

Hard to tell what the next collectable car will be. I still own a 1963 Corvair Monza 4 door. It's sitting next to my Dad's barn rusting away where I parked it in 1972 when the transmission went out.

I had a good friend back then who had a 1962 Falcon that we all thought was a POS. He couldn't wait to get rid of it. Now, just down the road from me, one of my friends collects Falcons and has a barn full of all year models that he's restoring. Who would have thought?

The friend with the '62 Falcon bought a 1974 340 Duster with his Army signing bonus in 1973. We all thought... why advertise such a small engine in giant letters on the side of the car? (we all had 350's - 455's). After seeing it grab rubber at 80 mph, we understood lol.

That is now a very collectible car. So, just 'cause it ain't cool now doesn't mean that it won't be collectible in the future.

I've always liked the Corvairs especially the Monza. I had a '61 Falcon back in '74. Had the straight six with three on the tree. I hated it.
