Nitrocellulose paint care

Mike, I used Menzerna products as I almost always do. It was restored at the Ferrari factory in Italy over a long period of time and had a base/clear system that had mild-moderate scratching so a milder compound followed with 4500 worked well with LC foam pads.

Okay, now I fully understand. I was thinking you were restoring antique single stage paint on this 1951 Ferrari when in fact it has been repainted using a modern basecoat/clearcoat paint system.

It's just the title of this thread was about Nitrocellulose lacquer paints, probably the softest, most fragile paint there is to work on especially compared to the durable, hard modern paints used today called basecoat/clearcoat paint system.

The #7 treatment is normally for old single stage paints but a person could and should use it for an antique basecoat/clearcoat finish if restore the antique basecoat/clearcoat finish is important to them. As clearcoats age they open up through scratching and interstices.

BFWD sealant so he could top with wax for a show if desired, and Wolfgang deep gloss spray sealant for a topper.

Cool. :xyxthumbs:

Also worked on a 2006 Ford GT with 3 miles on it, Lucky me!

Been fortunate enough to do the Porsches and Ferrari's on a daily basis and thanks to your column and vid's I gained a really good knowledge base-can't thank you enough!

Sounds like a DREAM JOB!

Congratulations and thank you for the follow-up posts...
