No April Fools: 2013 Mustang GT500 delivers 650 Horsepower

give em credit for trying. i have been a chevy fan since the introduction of the small block days of 283/283. if shelby was totally running the show he'd put 750hp on the street and we'd be in deep dxdx. i dread to see him go away!

The rims and fog lights are also different from the GT to the V6.

IMO, its a lot easier to spot a GT over a V6 Mustang compared to the Camaro.

V6 Mustangs can be optioned with the same wheels as a GT. So can Camaros. Obviously the V6 models have to sell in order to support building the V8 cars, and V6 owners want their cars to look good too. Kind of a bummer because if I were to buy either car and spend the money on the performance model I would really want it to stand out and not look like another secretary's car.

I actually have an easier time spotting an SS Camaro simply because the slit for the hood.

The rear diffuser is different on an SS also. And the front bumper has more of a Squared bottome instead of the smile like on my bumper. Although the ZL1 looks nothing like either of them lol.

The new GT500 is simply awesome! With the re-worked active suspension and the addition of launch control putting the power down should be greatly improved. Ford addressed all the major complaints about the previous years. Torsen limited-slip differential, Launch control, new Brembo brake system, aerodynamic work was done for optimum performance at all speeds, front fascia and splitters were modified to handle the extreme loads at 200 mph, 33 percent more effective aero loading at 160 mph compared to the 2011 model, all AdvanceTrac settings and steering assist levels within selectable steering have been tuned to account for the updated content, optional Performance Package includes adjustable SVT-designed Bilstein shocks and the list goes on.

I have a 2010 GT500 paid 47k fully loaded, pulley and tune put down 530 hp to the wheels, control arm swap solved wheel hop and improved traction issues, car is very stable at very high speeds and would not hesitate to take a 2013 to 200. I have never had a problem staying in front of a Camaro or Challenger can't comment on the other cars mods as I didn't stop to ask.

The only optional wheels the V6 shares with the GT are the 18" polished aluminum wheels.

Though yes, I do agree with you about wanting the performance model to stand out more than the popular base model.

I guess I'm not normal when it comes to telling the difference from a V6 to V8, because I can very easily spot the difference.

Love the muscle car debate!!!! It's great to be a muscle car guy,but ,if you cut me I admit, I bleed ford blue!!!!!:props:

I'm just a car guy. Out of the 30+ cars I've owned since 1976 four were Dodge, three Honda, one VW, one Nissan, one Ford, and the rest GM of some sort. The two I remember most fondly was my first brand new one, a 78 Honda Civic right off the showroom floor and the 72 Chevelle 350 bought a year or two later. All time fav was the Chevelle though. I guess having the Chevelle as a kid made me really want the Camaro when it came out. I would have no problem owning a Mustang or Challenger either.

My favorite car of all has always been a '70 'Cuda convertible. I was so hoping those rumors of a new, KOTH 'Cuda based on the Challenger (including a 600+ hp version of the Hemi) were based in truth.

wondering if the price will be in the 50k range like current model or more so in the 65+? I know this early in the release there is nothing available and just speculation, but will be interesting once released.

It has my vote :dblthumb2:

Yep, the comparisons thus far have centered on the Mustang - Camaro wars. BTW: That has been going on for a long, long, long time :).

IF Ford figures out a way to get that HP to the ground the Shelby will be faster than the ZR-1 (yes, the Corvette) in terms of 0-60, 0-100, etc. The issue will be that rear axle on the Mustang which keeps it from beating the Vette (ZR-1 variety) thru the twisties. I doubt we'll see a Nurbburgring record from the Mustang as that road course favors handling over raw power.

The Corvette ZR-1 is easily $100,000+ whereas the fully loaded Shelby even with a 10% increase from 2012 to 2013 will run about $65,000. That's a significant $$ difference. It's the same argument us Vette folks have been saying about why the Vette is the best bang for the buck.

Haha 54000 base I dont care if it is or isnt faster than a corvette apple, and oranges. The zl1 is an apple so the Shelby wins nuf said

:iagree: Couldnt agree more...this is great for the US auto industry.

I also agree I am a mustang v8 v6s dont count fan through and through, and I dont hate on other people camaros or challengers there just not my favs. :iagree:

Umm, first off, it's ZR1, not ZL1! :p

Secondly, the ZR1 is only 12 HP less, but WAY lighter, which means faster!

The GT500, though.

sorry to burst your bubble 662Hp and 630 ft pounds of torque 0-60 of 3.5 and a 1/4 miles at 11.6 faster than a ford gt

Horsepower wars are good for everybody .:dblthumb2:

The 13 GT500 is insane! Best part is a big trunk and you can fit 4 relatively comfortably. Can do that with a Vette.
