Hi Autogeek,

I just saw the new policy that was updated on the BOGO page.

"Due to distributor agreements, we are unable to sell buy one, get one free items to international customers. Click here for more information."

and

"We are unable to ship Buy One, Get One items, clearance items, or other sale items made by PBMG to freight forwarders or to international customers."

Could I ask for a bit (ok, a lot) more detail on what this means please?

Thanks much!

Maybe it creates unfair competition to countries outside the U.S. and violates some trade agreement?

I also found the updated policy quite odd.

Just curious, if I may ask, "Niebelung", are you possibly located in Germany?

Nope, in Singapore. It just happens to be my screen name in a variety of settings =)

if the products are made by pbmg how are there distributor agreements when they are the distributor..makes no sense to me....maybe because the fees for included free items are higher. hopefully someone from AG responds, not that it matters to me as im in usa just for the international guys it just dont seem fair.so this has my mind going nuts of why its happening.

That's... very sad. I'm in Poland and with the very bad exchange rate, very high shipping costs, BOGOs and sales, such as VIP, where not only great deals, but the only opportunity to get some stuff for reasonable, acceptable price... there are some things European stores don't sell at all (let alone stores in Poland) - like OptiCoat which, by the way, I got on VIP sale... three of those. Not for resale... but I knew that I will be placing my next order form Autogeek in 6 months when I'm lucky, maybe later. So I wanted to have enough.
Ok, I won't be bragging further. Such is life. At least now I won't be waiting for the right BOGO or some good sale to buy the stuff I need... I will just have to collect enough money.
At least the forum is not getting any worse and you can still get a lot of help here.

Here's my guess: For BOGO the profit margin is already being decreased. With the extra administrative work that goes into international orders, that profit margin is even less...

Again, just my guess

My guess is that PBMA must have signed an agreement to with someone who is going to distribute their products internationally. It would only be fair that if the distributor is making a sizable investment in products that he not want to loose sales with people dealing directly with the manufacturer. Just my guess of course!!

the answer is simple... shipping costs are increasing

I expect that purchase minimums to get free shipping will probably rise in 2012 as well...

If the customer is footing the bill (which is the case here) how would increasing shipping costs impact this situation?

I am just spit-balling here as I have a little experience in this area.... so take this with a grain of salt.....

I believe "distributor agreements" is a catch-all phrase. It doesn't make much sense when PMBG makes the product and it ships from FL. However, a BOGO on CarPro products (for example) and free shipping, may incur more expense to AG as it relates to sale and use taxes. It depends on the country but it can get quite funky when, for instance, there is a BOGO and free shipping so one product is "paid for", yet the country charges tax on the shipping and all items regardless of the price of each item.

I am eager to learn what actually changed in 2012 compared to prior years. I doubt this is purely an AG-specific problem but the guideline is something I have never heard of before.

Probably can't sell products for less $$ than their distributors would sell the same products....

I have worked for manufacturers that had the same agreement with their distributors in the US...

If we sold direct to a consumer we had to charge more than our distributors would. That way it pushed business to the distributor...

so you previously had to pay shipping on the free item of a bogo item?

glad I live close to the border then...

If you were an international customer would you rather:

Pay for ONE item and shipping for both items?

OR

Pay for BOTH items AND shipping for both items?
