-I'm absolutely appalled, even embarrassed (yet, somehow not overly surprised/shocked) after reading
through and taking note of several of the varied responses to this thread-starter of the OP's.
-It is no wonder, IMHO, that the "Detailing Profession", and the folks that profess to be "Detailers",
are often disrespected, derided...even looked upon with utter disdain!!
Once again the not-so-polite, disparaging connotation:
"Glorified Shoe-Shine Boy"...comes to the fore.
-Makes me seriously wonder what other facets of their lives some folks will also tend to shirk;
yet nonetheless, at times, are expecting to be remunerated for doing so...
no matter, whatsoever, the reason(s) they try to conjure-up.

From an Auto Body perspective,
A "Detailer" is just a car wash guy, lower than a "buffer"
So a Detailer at a Body shop is low at the totem pole.
My manager once told me however. "Running a body shop is a team effort, there is no lower or higher person here. We all count the same"
He was a manager that if you were having trouble with something, he would get dirty a long side with you, step in and do the work himself if he had to, to try and fix the problem.
But thanks to AG, I have realized I am not the only one that loves "True Detailing" and it is about Quality not Quantity.
Attention to Detail
All of these replies about "Quality over Quantity" and I never skip the roof of an SUV sounds like a bunch of bs to me. Have you ever crouched on the roof of an Escalade or Sequioa? I have and those roofs will leave a dent if you are over 150lbs which I know most of you are over that weight capacity. I would much rather tell them that I cleaned and waxed the roof than explain to them why I left a big concave dent on their roof.

You have to remember that the natives consider the object at the bottom of the totem pole is regarded to be the most important.

Due to my disability, if I can't reach over on my tippy toes. I don't have the courage to even try to get on a step latter.
Falling from a step stool and hurting myself is not something I could put a price on.
But I have thought about it, on building up the courage. Lol
I don't even go up on a step latter to change the light bulb. I have sadly came to the realization that me in the hospital again is way, way more important for me to avoid then, proving myself. Lol eh oh well.
I just smile and work on the things I can do (physically) and then do it so many times that I master them.
Give a neighborhood kid some money to put a coat of sealant on the roof once a year.
I tried to not do it. I thought " Yeah. Why should I wax up there? That's a lot of surface".
But the ole saying prevailed " A job worth doing is worth doing right". Darn that ole saying!
