My ears are still ringing from the last airline flight. Had to crank my earbuds way the heck up just to overcome some of the cabin and engine noise. Any suggestions on a set of good, affordable noise cancelling headphones? My budget is $80 max. I was looking at Bose's offerings, but the price is way out of my reach.

Check out SkullCandy headphones they have great sound and don't break the bank

Also, look into Klipsch S3 & S4 headphones. Both are in your budget price.

earbud or headphones?

id get noise isolating (not active canceling) earbuds for convenience.

the skullcandys earbuds arent too bad. just stay away from their headphones

if youre getting headphones, stay away from the beats. overpriced fashion statement.

budget and headphones are mutually exclusive to me so i cant recommend a good AND cheap set.

I have the Klipsch s4 earbuds and they really help me out when I am vacuuming or polishing for long periods of time. The Klipsch earbuds are noise isolating and not noise cancelling. Meaning that they reduce the decibel level of background noises but they do not eliminate background noises like a pair $300+ Bose headphones will.

I have been using them for about 3 months now and my ears are one less thing that hurts after a long day of detailing.

Definitely headphones. Earbuds hurt like crazy after only 10 minutes.
Nah, I don't like the Beats at all. Guess I'll have to do more research. Yeesh, and I thought deciding on an LSP was hard. This is just as difficult, if not impossible. LOL

I would look at the Sony noise canceling headset. Sony makes very good products and I think BestBuy carries them. I have the Bose EQ15 and always take them with me when I fly, not only do they sound great but they do an awesome job of canceling out the jet engine sound.

:)

I have the Polk Audio UltraFocus 6000 noise-canceling earbud headphones. It might be a little out of your price range, but they do a good job at masking outside noises and have a really good sound quality. I can't go back to regular earbuds after wearing these. Plus they come w/ 7 different sizes of ear tips so you're sure to find one that fits your ears.

+1 for the Sony noise cancelling headphones. I've had a pair for the last six years, they work great on planes/in noisy environments and are very reasonably priced. I've compared them to the Bose models and find that they are comparable but not quite as good. Price/value ratio is close enough that I'd buy another pair of Sony's before I'd drop the extra cash for the Bose.

Kplisch has great audio quality, I have the pc setup in my alienware

The klipsch S4's are earbuds but they are soft, I can wear them for 5-6 hours while detailing and i Love how they sound. And I agree with the good AND cheap being difficult to achieve in a headphone. I always tell a people that high end audio stuff is worth saving your lunch money for. Point in case, I waited a while until I could get the Klipsch M40s and it was well worth it

I've used my Etymotic ER6i earbuds for years and won't fly without them. If I take them off mid-flight it sounds like I'm hugging the turbines outside!

If I remember correctly, they were about $90 online. They come with different sleeves to fit your ears, come with a small zippered pouch, and they have great customer service too.

Helder

After reading a ton of reviews, I ended up going with a pair of Sennheiser noise cancelling headphones. They're more than your budget, but depending on how long you plan on keeping/using them, you may want to aim higher. I love my Senny's! I also bought a little amp that I run the iphone into and then into the headphones. Zero distortion even at high levels.

Etymotic Research, Inc. - mc5? earphones

earplugs + headphones = 42db isolation and music.

I just ordered a set of the HF3's as I want Apple controls and don't mind spending a little more. From the reviews I'm reading these seem to be the best at actually blocking outside noise, which is more important to me than sound quality, even though these are rated very high in that category as well.

Thanks for the link!!! Amazon Prime will have them here tomorrow so I'll post back how well I think they work. :props:

I use my old style ER6i when I fly. They are so good at blocking noise that I can't even fake a conversation with the flight attendant when she comes to ask me what kind of drink.

They are seriously awesome.

Well I tried them out for a week but I'm going to return them. :(

They blocked noise amazingly well, especially with the foam inserts, but the SQ weas horrible IMO. The included ear buds with my iPhone blow them away and I just couldn't justify having spent $145 on them and not be happy with the sound. I may just get some over the ear type headphones.

That's pretty surprising. I've had good luck with mine as far as SQ. I even found some smaller rubber boots for them so they're more comfortable.

Oh well! I will probably just get some Koss Porta-Pros.
