Hey folks,
Howdy from Albuquerque NM. I'm new as a poster on the forum, but been a longtime lurker.
My name is Bill and I'm a 44 yo family man with a wife and 2 kids, and a fetish (some would say an obsession) with cars/trucks.
I've been taking care of my own "detailing" for many years. The first new car I worked on was a 1994 Acura Integra GSR. That was followed by a 2000 Mazda Miata SE, 2004 Honda S2000, 2007 Chevrolet Corvette zo6, and now a 2012 Nissan GTR.
I've been strictly a Zaino kind of guy on all the cars since the Miata, and it has served me well.
I have been stumped now by the GTR. It was a dealer demo for months and has the most awefully taken car of paint job you can imagine. Just picture in your mind the dealership manager having the teenage wash boy at the dealership "washing" the car every weekend for months.
I had to buy the car sight unseen, and on delivery realized that the paint was one giant swirl with a few good scratches thrown in.
I've had the car at the local enthusiast detailing guru who said he could deswirl it, but sadly it looks exactly the same now except the swirls are glossier.
I've been unable to find anyone here in Albuquerque that does a real enthusiast paint correction (If anyone can point me in the right direction to someone with evidence they can do the job please do).
So, long story short, I've decided to take this on myself. Get the proper tools, materials and absorb as much of the expertise on this site that I can. I have several beater project cars/trucks I can practice on.
I'll be posting up a thread about advice for this project (though I'm unsure of which part of the forum to do so), with picts and such. I look forward to interacting with all of you.
