Hi Mike and others,

After applying the PBL surface coating to my car, I've got some questions about it that I'm hoping I can find answers to.

The construction in my area hasn't been very nice to my car in the last few weeks. I seem to be getting tiny rock chips nearly every time I drive to work and back home. Tiny white primer speck marks are showing up everywhere and it's really obvious on the black metallic flake paint. I'm researching into whether I go the Dr. Colorchip route, or roll up my sleeves and do it with actual dealer matched touch up paint.

The thing is, I've got this coating to think about too.

My questions are:

1. Is Menzerna SF4500 strong enough to cut through the PBL surface coating, or do I need to step it up to something like M205? I know we're not talking about opti coat thicknesses here, but SF4500 doesn't have much cut.

2. Has anyone tried spot removal of the coating and reapplication, or does the whole panel need to be polished out to reapply the coating? I've seen Mike's thread where he used it to boost the slickness and gloss on his wife's car after a wash, and that got me thinking that perhaps spot removal and reapplication without obvious visual defects might be possible.

3. I've noticed that the coating by itself does a remarkable job of repelling dust, but if I use any of the QDs I own, (Meg's consumer OTC Quick Detailer, Last Touch, or Final Inspection) as a drying aid to prevent marring or to clean up minor dusting, it becomes much more dusty in the next day or two. I'm assuming that perhaps there's some residual gloss enhancer or cleaning agent left behind that's doing it, but as there's no dedicated PBL Detailer, I'm not sure what to use. Would you dare use something like Carpro Eraser as a QD to insure you're not leaving behind residue? What's a good recommendation here?

You'll probably want to step it up to Menz 1500 or 2500 to save time in removing the coating before touching up. You'll be there all day trying to strip a coating with 4500!

Thanks for the reply!

I have been debating that point myself. Were it OC, I'd definitely been compounding with an orange pad, but I don't know if the BL coating is as thick. Looking for least aggressive approach.
