Novice but frugal

Not sure I put my post in the right forum section, but want to make the correct buying decision. I just bought a new Griot's 6" random orbital polisher. The question I have is should I change out the backup plate to a 5 inch and start using 5.5 inch pads immediately? The alternative is stay with the 6 inch backer plate and start buying 6.5 inch pads. The primary use will be to service a sports car with polishing infrequent but waxing and buffing more often.Feed back please

I have the same machine. The 5.5in backing plate and 6.5 backing plate are good to have together. Each has there use depending on the size of the panel one is working on. I use both size plates and pads

I agree with Buster. I'd also suggest to get the GG vented 5" BP. Will help with heat build up and extend the life of your pads.

Changing out to the 5"-bp/5.5"-pads
will result in having more effective;
efficient; enjoyable buffing experiences.

-DAs equipped with 6"-bp/6.5"-pads:
Not so much.

I use the smaller BP & pads with that machine & they work well.

the GG6 (congrats on the new purchase!) has enough torque/power to rotate 6.5" pads but to maximize the power of a traditional pc-style DA it would be wise to use 5.5" pads (thin).

you will also need a 3" DA backing plate if you want to use smaller 3.5" pads (tighter areas) such as the lake country thinpro and BOSS pads...

Thank you I went with the 5" BU plate and 5.5" pads. I am sure over time I will get more accessories and product. Just want to start off right.

Dont over think it.Just use the backing plate it comes with along with some thin pro pads.
