So this vehicle is owned by a very good friend of mine. It's actually his wife's car. We've been friends for about 13 years. Anyway, she took this to another "detail" shop here in Lynchburg to get it washed. Let's just say if this were my vehicle, this place would be in small claims court in a heartbeat.

I inspected the paint on this vehicle just after they bought it and the paint was actually in good condition when they first got it, but after this supposed $15 wash...they had to pay us a BUNCH more to fix it.

Process:

- 2-bucket Method wash using Super Suds Car wash
- Clayed lightly with Griot's Garage Clay and very light car wash dilution
- Wheels cleaned with Meg's Wheel Brightener and tires dressed with Meg's All Season Dressing.
- Corrected with Griot's ROP and Flex 3401 on CCS orange with M105 then followed up with M205 on CCS White.
- Plastics dressed with Meg's Rubber and trim dressing and a bit of 303 Aerospace Protectant.
- LSP was Wolfgang 3.0 sealant.

Pics:

BEFORE:

All of the damage was caused by the shop who did the wash. None of these swirls existed before-hand.

The roof wasn't too bad...they probably didn't get on a ladder to clean it, luckily.

And that's all I've got. Thanks for looking. My friends were blown away at how nice it came out! The iPhone needs to be replaced, I know. Sorry, but you get the idea. Constructive comments and criticism appreciated. :D

Beautiful flake!

Did they get the oil leak figured out?

Nice save bud. Tell her (them) to keep their vehicles AWAY FROM automated car washes. :iagree:

How in the HE double hockey sticks did a car wash place put that many swirls? Did it go through the machine or get handwashed with sandpaper?

Looks Great

Thanks Sully!

The oil leak was due to the rubber seal on the oil filter they had replaced getting pinched. The guy who changed their oil didn't lubricate the ring before putting the filter in. :\ Thanks Jonathan, you saw this thing in person. lol

Looks great!!! Your hard work has paid off again :dblthumb2:

Thanks Bird. We worked our butts off on it to get it right. Luckily, Range Rover clearcoat is SUPER soft. haha

This was a HAND wash! lol The company here in town is called "Touch of Class" car wash and detailing!! BWAHAHA Yeah RIGHT! Touch of class my a-double snake!

I'm assuming they used dirty towels to scrub the paint instead of using clean materials and the 2-bucket method. Stupid ghetto wash is what this place is. I've been there a few times. Bunch of morons with bath towels and dirty wash water claiming to be "detailers".

Hi Adam, I love your work. You do awesome corrections!

Just a quick question...do you prefer WG sealant to say, megs #26 wax on a dark car? I'm going to detail an early 80's MB with single stage paint for a friend this weekend, and I'm still not sure what LSP I want to use to make the paint really look deep and wet. I will apply WG FG by hand, then put on the LSP. I know I'll only get to put one coat of the sealant on, so I hope 1 coat is enough. What do you think?

Lol, yeah it was something worse in person than in pictures. And just a heads up, you might be getting a call from me in a panic on Friday while I'm doing some headlights. First time........

Think positive about it. Wait. The headlights on what?? The headlights in the RR look fine from the pictures you posted.

I usually opt for a sealant Spike. They last longer and the new formula sealants give a very nice, deep, wet look to the paint. I used Poli-seal on the MB 300SDL, 2-coats and it came out looking amazing, but even 1 coat should give great results. The cure-time for sealants is the tricky part, where-as, with a wax, there is no cure time. It's a wipe-on, let it dry and wipe off, then apply another coat. Either way, you can't really go wrong though. Good luck with your choice.

As a side note, a high-quality wax will typically give a better look to paint, though it's probably negligible as far as I've noticed. And thanks so much for your kind words. :D I'm sure John appreciates them as well.

Thanks for your reply so quick! I too like the durability of the sealants, but the cure time is tricky, especially when detailing for someone else. I guess it will be up to my friend if he could leave the car in the garage all day Sat after I get done for the 12 hr cure time. If he can't, then I guess he's getting wax...And, yes, John does awesome work too!! :dblthumb2:

They are the headlights on an '05 Jetta. My Si will hopefully never need any major work other than fixing what the body shop did  . Most college kids use spring break to party, I use it for detailing. Hijacking done.

Is it possible that the paint had a good bit of glaze on it from the dealership which in turn was washed off by the carwash people? The reason I'm asking this is because I saw some buffer swirls in some of the pictures...
Nice work>>>>>>>>

It did have some holograms in the paint when they first bought it, and I mentioned it to them, but overall, the paint had just a few, light swirls and nothing like it had when we got it. It may be possible they used a glaze and filled some of what may have been there, but I've seen the way this place operates. They use bathtowels and the same bucket of water just refilled over and over again without rinsing, so all of the dirt from any car they've washed earlier is still floating around in the water. Not only that, but I know for a fact they don't use grit guards. I haven't personally seen them drop a towel on the ground, but I can imagine that it wouldn't bother them at all to throw it in their dirty water, think they're rinsing out the towel thoroughly and then just use it on another car.

Jetta headlights are quite easy to correct actually Jonathan. They're very square and the material isn't actually too hard. If they're really bad, just gimme a call and I'll walk you through some things. My wife's birthday party is on Saturday though, so I'll be really busy.

Its one of the new looking ones that came out halfway through 05 so it has the rounder looking headlights. I did a trial run on one of Fred's tailights and it came out pretty good.

And Happy Birthday to your wife.

I got to ask, did you have a talk with this friend of yours? I mean after all, his buddy is a detailer, unlike the paint murders he gave $15 too!
