Hello everyone,

Its been about close to year since I last polished my car. The paint was in much better shape than a year ago when I had first tackled correcting it.

The introduction of Opti-Coat and Cquartz really caught my attention because my car has soft paint and black paint always shows everything. I was initially going to use Cquartz on my car but decided to use that for my wifes camry. Instead, I waited for the release of Opti-Coat 2.0.

I also want to mention that I was able to do the whole car with 10cc of Opti-Coat and found the application very easy. I used a buffing MF towel to remove any high spots.

Wash: CG citrus wash and clear (strip paint)
Decontaminate: Iron X
Clay: Mothers Clay and QD on a few panels
Polish: D300 with Meguiars MF Cutting Pad
Finish: PO85rd with LC gray pad (Thanks for the 85rd sample Rsurfer!)
LSP: Opti-Coat 2.0

I was surprised that using DI rinses, 2Bucket Method, and Sheepskin wash mitts still marred my paint from when I first polished my car. Here is a 50/50 pic to show that.

Looking real nice fish!
I also reach for OC/OG for customers that have soft clear coats and want a super coating applied. The less you have to touch something you corrected to a defect free finish, the better.

Nothing prettier than a polished out black car. Did you have any smudging issues like I had with the OC?

Looks like someone poured salad dressing over your car.

How do you know if you have "soft" paint? I have a 1991 300ZX. Is that considered soft?

Awesome correction. Wasnt in too bad of shape but now looks perfect.

Also really love the M35/M45 wheels on your G35, nice stock look but much better than what they come with. Nice touch!

Looks great! Would love to drive one of those some day!

Thanks IID....I agree with less touching less marring. I used a pressure washer too the only thing I am missing is probably a master blaster but that is going to be ordered real soon.

Looking real good.

No smudging issues that I could report. I did leave a high spot near the back quarter panel. I noticed it this morning. I am going to try and polish it out. No big deal.

Thanks Rsurfer, I finally used the PO85rd you sent me almost a year ago. I had also ordered the PO85rd but did not touch it because your sample was enough, I still had some left over. Just curious, have you tried Menzerna 106fa? I was told it finishes down well and has more cut than PO85rd. Curious to know how it finishes on Infiniti paint. I am most likely going to order it as well.

Basically what Legacy said...which means soft paint is paint that scratches real easy. For example, sometimes even when buffing with a MF towel I can induce marring.

Thanks LuxuryMobile, I tried my best to keep it marr free but the pics show it's close to impossible even with the proper wash techniques applied. Hopefully, Opti-Coat can provide better protection from marring.

I really like those wheels too. People always compliment me on those wheels. I had to buy big wheel spacers to get them to fit. I wanted to keep the car oem as much as possible.

Scarlane, these are fun to drive and much better than my previous car, a 1993 Honda Accord

Great work, black glossy cars are the best.

Thanks, I agree, they look great but they are a full time job. :props:

Awesome work! Pictures of freshly polished black cars always make me salivate.

Looking good buddy! :props:

Be sure to keep us posted on whether or not it helps reduce marring for you. :)

Thanks Rasky,

I will try and post some updates. I am trying my best not to mar it this time around. I recently purchased the Car Pro Wool Wash Mitt and a cheap electric blower. The blower already made drying the car much easier.

YW, 106 does finish down pretty good, but if I need a little more cut, I use a green pad with 85rd and then finish down with a black pad. IMO Power Finish and 85rd is all you need, except for real bad paint (Meg's 105).

Very nice just what I needed to see, a co worker is buying a G35 4dr black and wants me to detail it and possibly apply a coating and I was leaning towards Optimum

Cool, well that's good to know. On my next order I will order that compound and those green/tangerine pads.

Yes, definitely Opti-Coat 2.0 or Cquartz. Can't go wrong with those because Infiniti has soft paint.

Do you get scratches when you look at the paint wrong?

I get scratches if I even think about it, DOH just got another one.

The G looks GREAT! I like the G35 more than the G37 or 350Z/370Z and I hardly ever see black ones, I would love to see that one going down the road beside me!

Thanks S2K,

I know what you mean about black cars and scratches. My car is older now than when I first got it (initially bought it 2 years used) and I see a lot more G's on the road but they have really hammered paint. Mine still looks new thanks to Autogeek, muhahahahahahaha, j/k.
