OEM engine oil filter vs other brands?

I use OEM filters exclusively. Who knows the demands and needs of their cars better than the manufacturer? I have been using Genuine Honda filters are my cars for over a decade and never had a drop of problems from them. I use synthetic oil and change my oil regularly at 5k miles. I never once had a leak or issue with my RSX, or with my current Accord.

For my 97 Camaro SS, I also use GM filters.

And, on my Nissan's, I have been using genuine Nissan filters as well. My 1991 SE-R has 128k miles on it (I hardly drive it now). But when I did take the valve cover off at about 120K, underneath it looked pristine, no buildup at all. That car to always has been given synthetic oil.

I think the oil is probably more important than the filter.

The manufacturer may know more about your engine's needs but they also have a vested interest in selling you another car in the short future. There are some good reads about electric cars and their concerns about not making any money after the initial sale.
