Here's a candidate, a 1957 Chevrolet Belair. This car was painted approximately 10 years ago and while the color is very pretty for this body style, it's filled with swirls and scratches through the entire finish.

When the sun shines on the paint instead of having a deep, wet, high gloss shine, the paint turns all hazy looking. The swirls take your focus off the beautiful body lines the Tr-Fives are famous for and blinds you with ugliness.

You can see these kinds of holograms or rotary buffer swirls throughout each panel when the sun hits them.

This is called, TOGW, pronounced, togwa. This stands for The Other Guy's Wax, that is wax left in the cracks and crevices, or around emblems left by the last guy that buffed out the car. So not only does we have to remove any splatter we get on the car, we also have to remove the other guys wax or his shoddy work will reflect poorly on our work.

It's a beautiful example of a 1957 Chevrolet Belair, it just needs to be Wolfganged!

I would like to be the first to offer to take all that USED product and equipment off of your hands after the Smackdown. Just trying to help you keep your work area clean ,safe and free from clutter. To help , I would be willing to pay the s/h.

Dont lie Meghan!!

I was wondering what the beach towel and newspaper was for...... NOW I have a good idea!!!

MEGHAN'S GONNA BE OUT WORKING ON HER TAN MAX!!!! MAKE HER HAVE A SALE AS PUNISHMENT!!!!!

:laughing::laughing:

I'm looking forward to seeing this project and (no offence meant) with some different name products being used.

I look forward to all of Mike's "training" posts. Should be a great way to learn while seeing a classic car brought back to life

I have been interested in the flex for some time and can't wait to get Mike's opinion. :xyxthumbs:

Someone sent me a PM asking me,

If you're going to do the buff-out using the Flex 3401, then why are you taking the other polishers? Especially the rotary buffer?

Great Questions! Here's the asnwers... Now follow me on this...

So far... all I've done to the 1957 Chevy is.....

Look at it.

I don't know if the paint is hard or soft or a better way of saying this is I don't know how polishable the paint is so far because I haven't done any Test Spots.

So like a my Boy Scout training taught me, always be prepared...

I'm expecting the Flex, the pads and the chemicals to have no problems removing the swirls and scratches and working the paint up to a show car finish but I don't know this for sure. So just in case I"m taking the rotary buffer. I'm also taking the little Griot's Garage Polisher in case I need a small pad for some tight areas. I'm taking the Griot's Garage Polisher just because I can.

Anyway, should be fun.

:)

I always take a beach towel and newspapers. I don't always use them, but I always take them. If I use them, you'll see how in the pictures in the write-up.

If I don't use them for the buff-out I might need the towel to dry my seat off for the drive home as it's supposed to rain.

I bet you are gonna love Wolfgang 3.0 polishes, they are exactly the same as Menzerna SIP, and PO106FA.

Well been at it for a couples hours, Mike it really going at it with the Flex and Total Swirl, had to take a little time in the beginning to clean up a LOT of overspray! You are going to love it when you see the pictures, got to get back, had to make a drink run since its hot as you know what outside today.

Thanks Mike,

This is the write up which I have been waiting for as I am a newbie Flex owner. The fact that you are also using all of the Wolfgang products which I have purchased with my Flex makes it that much better. It doesn't get better than this unless I was down in Florida seeing you work in person.

Cant wait to see the full write up!!

While that color is hard to capture and show the depth, you can tell by the front of the hood, that the paint looks like you can swim in it now!!

I am sure the owner was tickled pink by the outcome!

Sweet, I look forward to seeing what goes down. I have a feeling that using a rotary would yield better results, however I just ordered a flex 3401 less than an hour ago. I am hoping that it will speed up my finishing passes. The 7424 just doesn't do it for me! I am think that the Flex should be able to clean up after my DW849.
