If that's the case then same can be said for motor oil as well. Amsoil Signature Series is arguably one of the best motor oils on the market backed by used oil analysis and impressive characteristics on virgin oil analysis. They do charge a premium but its also a premium oil.

I think that sometimes depends on who os making the OE filter. I use OE filters on my 6 cyl. Subaru which are still made by Tokyo Roki. Many of my 4 cyl. brothers started using aftermarket filters when the OE started to be manufactured by Honeywell (Fram).
 
Honeywell is fram.........

there are only some many companies that make filters.. like napa filters are made by wix. etc..
 
An old-school mechanic once told me to change oil every 3K miles religiously (this was 25 years ago) and I could use toilet paper in those dang oil filters. Followed his advice and always used the cheapest no-name oil filters I could find. But this was ages ago when things were built differently (maybe).

These days, I change mine every 5K with synthetic and use OEM filters bought online in bulk.
 
First off an oil change every 5K with synthetic is a massive waste of money and oil. Newer Hondas have an oil minder that tells you when to change oil and 10,000 miles is not uncommon. Honda filters are indeed made by the parent company of Fram but made to Honda specifications. Any off the shelf oil filter will easily go 5K and do its job well. You are wayyyy overthinking this. There are also OEM Honda filters made by Filtech if you do some internet searching.

Here is a Honda oil analysis with just under 10K miles using synthetic(s). It is easily still good for several thousand more miles:

I must admit this I did not expect to see these results. I have always used AC/Delco. I put 220,000 miles on my last truck and have 204,000 on my current truck. I have not had an engine problem with either truck. I am pretty compulsive about changing my oil at 3,500-4,000 miles so that probably has as much to do with my success as the type of oil filter.

Yeah it was pretty interesting reading this when someone posted this link on one of the car forums I am on. I used to use AC Delco filters and then not too long ago there was two versions on the market. One made in the states and one made I believe in Mexico. The USA version is still a better filter.

This go around I gave the Fram Xtended Guard a go since it is their best filter on the market. I picked it up at walmart for about $10.

I will also use Mobil 1 and K&N.
 
Wix, Bosch, are both good. NAPA gold filters are rebrand of some pretty high end filters as well. I usually use a wix.

I've heard horror stories about fram from multiple outlets so I tend to avoid them.

Balwin definitely. I've researched oil filters high a low when I owned a mobile oil filter business. Even changed the local oil company from selling Wix and switching to Baldwin. Baldwin should have paid me a commmision.
 
Frank, not sure where you heard that but I never heard anything bad about Honda oil filters.

In my previous 2 Honda 1.5L's I used Mobil 1 oil filters. They have 100% pure synthetic media and double the amount of it as well.

Btw, I have an unused Mobil 1 filter for the 1.5L, its an M101 or M110 part number but it could cross reference to your Honda, let me know and I'll send it to you, Happy Holidays:thumbup:

I agree 100%!

I had a 13.8K oil change tested @ Blackstone Labs on my CR-Z, which was its 3rd oil change and I was told by them via phone call that I should change it @10K. It had a lot of aluminum and iron in the oil and that was because it was still new and breaking in, just a thought.

I say this, synthetic oil and synthetic filter and 10K and call it a day;)

I was just shopping and reading about them. I came across a YouTube video of a guy cutting open 2 honda filters. He said the old ones were made from filtech and some of the new ones are made by Honeywell. He said the Honeywell isn't as good. So I just started reading more.

A lot of different reviews. Amsoil and purple royal got good reviews. Wix got a good review.

I change the oil every 5k miles so im not concerned about it. One guy mentioned that the good synthetic oil will last well over 10k. Maybe it does, I'm still changing mine every 5k. So I ended up getting wix. Which I think makes napa filters too

For sure! I saw a Fram oil filter cut open about 25 years ago and it had newspaper in it, no kidding!

I was using k&n but I am switching to Royal Purple since the cost is about the same for my car with slightly better results.

Ill continue wasting money and oil then. I change my own oil so it costs me just for parts.

I worked for a auto repair center and I saw vehicles which used conventional motoroil and changed at "normal" 5k+ mile intervals on all different types of vehicles. A peek into their oil filler caps saw gunk. Many also had leaks.

My RSX saw 5k mile intervals using synthetic and at 60k miles, a peek inside the filler cap was spotless and there was not a leak to be found.

Additionally, I have a 91 SE-R and when I was driving it regularly, I changed the oil at 3k miles regularly. At 120k miles I removed the valve cover to change the gaskets and the head was like new. No buildup, hardly discolored.

I'll continue to waste money on oil and filters to save money on engine repairs later.
 
Since marketing/hype are very rarely used in other areas
of consumable products' sales...Then, surely to goodness:

They would never, ever be involved in the sales-tactics of oil filters!!

I think this thread illustrates that we are a community of people who are not only compulsive with the cleanliness/appearance of our vehicles, we are also compulsive in most other areas of our lives.

For the record, even though many people consider referring to someone as compulsive to be "bad," I consider it to be a compliment.
 
I agree with you Helltopay!

I've only been on Bobtheoilguy a couple times but people there are like us, but with oil/filters, LOL!
