OK Computer Guys

Thanks guys for all the feedback but Apple is over my price range. I know it is a great computer. We have a dell laptop for about ten years old and have never had any problems with it. My HP Desktop is five years old and has been great until the end of last year and has been in the shop three times and they upgraded the memory. The last PC I got was an HP Laptop last year for my daughter. After about a month the keys started popping off and when I sent it back to HP they claimed it was abuse on the keyboard. The damn thing was never abused and I told them that and I will never buy another by an HP ever again.
Anyhoo the Dell I have posted; is it a good deal?

$600 is not bad for the computer spec wise. What are you using the computer for? If you're just using for browsing and email, any laptop or desktop in the $500-$600 range is fine. Computers will always have the potential to fail, even Macs.

I would only build a computer if you're going for a gaming rig. Lucky for me I have a close friend who works in Intel :)

Yes it's a good deal. Right now is a good time to buy with Intel coming out with the new processors. If it's for home or small business you don't need the latest and greatest processor. With Windows 7 it's less hardware intensive than any past Microsoft OS. Dell has been my hardware of choice for I've been in IT for 12. I work for a large university and we buy mostly Dell.

Acer is able to compete with Dell becuase they are fine with having a very small profit margin. I believe 1 percent per computer. Dell is moving towards more services. But their hardware hasn't suffered.

So again, yes it's a good deal. Unless you are a programmer or serious gamer, you don't need the high end hardware. The only thing I would splurge on is a big monitor if you have the room.

Those Mac people are only kidding themselves! :xyxthumbs:
