Ok, I am going to bite the bullet and hire a detailer for my remaining swirls

Lauren, my advice will be to ask a detailer to show pictures of his work (befores and afters), and make sure you find some Vettes done by him and some other luxury cars. You don't want to trust him if he only worked on old Tercels and Escorts.
That's my advice.

Clear coat is very hard on Vettes, and if you want to do some work yourself you will need Pinnacle Twins (not XMTs), and/or Menzerna PO106FF.
Those polishes are pretty espensive, but so is your car. It's well worth it.

You guys are so terrific, every single one of you. My car is MUCH improved, and NO, I do not think I could stand for a moment someone else touching it - especially with some low quality, non AG product.

I don't have optimum. maybe menzerna is where i need to go.

filling in swirls is NOT an answer. that's stupid. i heard that and i knew - an idiot.

all thoughts appreciated...

most detailers use cheap high volume glaze waxes that all they do is hide the swirls. i was in the same situation a few years ago before i got pretty good doing it my self .i took my wifes car to a detailer and said i want all the scratches taking out. most of them anyway . he said no problem. and when i picked up the car i have to say it looked pretty good. intill the first wash and all the glaze came off and there were the scratches:( . remembe no ones going to do it as good as you want it .some will but they will charge a lot more then a hundred bucks.
 
I'm betting that's all that detailer would do. You said $100 for the detail, and from the prices I've heard on here and Autopia, that seems too cheap.
 
i use had those same little swirls i used optimum polish and a green medium foam pad. and took them out no problem. you should try optimum!!!. :o i have more to go on my truck im doing one panel at a time. the weathers been a little crazy.
 
If I were a little closer I'd be more than happy to help you out, Lauren.

Before searching for a detailer, who may or may not know what he/she's doing, I'd give another shot at doing it yourself.

Just focus on one panel at a time. Take as long as it takes to get that panel swirl-free. When done, you can put a temporary coat of wax on it, then move onto the next panel. This way, you're not trying to get the entire car done in one sitting, just one panel.

When I was using the PC only that is how I tackled my last car. I must've spent an entire day on the hood alone getting it swirl-free.

It will take time and some experimenting with polish/pad combos, but you should be able to tackle the swirls yourself. Even with the hard CC of the vette.

Do what I and others told you last time, post on Autopia, the Pro Detailers on there I would choose anyday out of just somebody whose ad I saw etc. That forums huge so somebody will or know someone who will, they'll be detail nutz just like any of us on these forums. I mean the work you see guys post on there blows away what the "local" detailers I see around me do.

Depends on the polish. Some can work much longer than 4 minutes.

Yes it takes lots of time and hard work to get anything at 100% but I wouldn't trust someone to get near my vehicle....that's just my opinion. Stick with it babe, don't give up we got your back. Hey you saw the Volvo, so if I could rid of all the water edging and the really bad scratches and wirls I'm sure you can make the Vet swirl free....it's just toing to take some time that's all.

Lauren, you live in San Diego? If so, I know the guy for you. His name is Ryan.
He really knows what he is doing. He is a big poster on autopia. His user name there is RAG. If you want I can put you in touch with him. On autopia he is considered the best in San Diego. His service is great too. Trust me. He is like 'Justin'. Check him out.

Thank God for Makita!
 
Lauren, have you invested in some Menzerna before hiring a pro detailer? Try that first, if that doesn't work, then maybe go another route.

I would highly recommed you try Menzerna PO106FF. Then some RMG and finally a couple coats of Souveran. It's still a lot of work with a PC but you'll be amazed at the results. Good luck!

If you want the cob webs gone and not covered up, use a circular polisher and take the clear off untill you see no more cob webs or scratches.
I use Menzerna PO106FF or Menzerna Intensive Polish with an orange ccs pad. The pc trades cutting ability for safety, so you may have to step up to a circular.
