What is the best wash/cleaner to strip the old wax or sealant off the paint/clearcoat to start waxing from scratch?
 
Chemical guys citrus wash(one oz of soapin one gallon of water) is what I strip my wax off with followed by either iron x or just clay barring

What is the best wash/cleaner to strip the old wax or sealant off the paint/clearcoat to start waxing from scratch?


Instead of trying to chemically strip something off the paint by washing or wiping with some type of solvent simply wash the car as normal then decontaminate if needed using detailing clay or something like the Nanoskin mitt, towel or pad.

Once you have the car clean and smooth, then simply buff the car with one of these,

  • Compound followed by polish
  • Polish
  • Paint Cleaner


All of the above will obliterate anything left off the surface.

If the paint is in great shape and all you want to do is make sure any previously applied wax or sealant is off the surface then use a fine cut polish on a soft foam polishing pad. This will,

  • Remove any fine or shallow swirls and scratches, even ones you cannot see.
  • Maximize gloss and clarity.
  • Perfectly prepare the apint for application of new wax or sealant.
