So I had a close call with a cop yesterday doing 65 in a 45 and getting a warning, driving slower was definitely in the cards today.

I am driving home from work going my usual route and it had rained earlier in the day but had stopped a couple hours prior.

I am going down this one stretch of road that has a quick somewhat uphill turn then comes back straight. The turn has a sign that says 25 mph and on dry days I have taken it at 60 no problem.

But with my close call the day before and it having rained I decided to be smart. Well I start to come up on the turn and downshift to 3rd while going about 45 in 4th, I am coming through the turn at about 30 and at the apex I give it some gas and WHOOOSH, the back end comes right out from under me and I am sideways in the turn.

I try to correct back and am off the gas but nothing, so in a split second I am on the brakes as I see the driveway of a house on the inside of the corner coming up fast. The car locks up and I am sliding to certain doom.

I try to come off the brakes and steer out some more but by this time I am sliding over the driveway, I see a big oak tree about 45 degrees in front of me and next thing I know BAM, SMACK, CRACK I see a mailbox go flying and this metal pole.. F%^K!!!!!!

The car comes to a stop now facing back to the road and my rear end is in the ditch. The car is stalled and I just know the driver side of the car is JACKED from taking that stuff out. I get it started and since the ground is wet and slippery I am gunning it to get out, I get out pull up to the side of the road and jump out..

I am scared to death, I walk from the front driver side to the back.. NOTHING, WTF?.. all I see is mud and grass in the rims and some splattered up on the car. I walk around behind the car, nothing, walk the passenger side, more grass and mud and get to the front and the front bumper is popped out by the wheel well, little push and it snaps back in. I am thinking what just happened, I go around to look at the front everything is intact some dirt I wipe with my fingers and it comes off.

By this time a guy I know pulls up, we collect the owners mail that went flying everywhere and we go up to the house. Its a little old ladies house and some guy did the same thing 3 weeks prior. I tell her I will fix it all this weekend and proceed to go back to the scene to figure out what happened. And why my car is unscathed!

From what I could tell I think my car was a bit tilted up when it went off the driveway and caught the mailbox with my front tire hitting rubber and not the rim. The mailbox was not in concrete and just stuck in the ground and it was kinda muddy, so that explained one thing. But the metal post I was dumbfounded. I fount it in the yard and it is about a 4 inch steel pipe that had a street sign on it that had the owners name on it and in the middle it was bent about 15 degrees. I saw the hole it came from, again no concrete just in the ground, but how do I hit a metal pole, bend it, knock it out of the ground and not at least dent my car.

Well I drive home, proceed to get the pressure washer out and hose the car down trying to find any more evidence, and I finally did.

On the driver side of the front license plate bracket is a vertical scuff about 4 inches long and maybe 1.5 inches wide. Not scratched a lot I think some will buff out. I think my front tire got the mail box and by shear luck that pole just scuffed up against the bumper and got caught on the plate holder which knocked the pole out and would explain why the bumper was popped out on the passenger side.

All in all, I am now enjoying a drink and trying to get my nerves back. Then I am looking in the paper for a cheap beater that I can drive in crappy weather!!!

Time to use my new supplies that came in today to start detailing it :)

Way to go. :dunno:

Might consider a defensive driving course or a slower car.

Yeeesh. Sounds like you had lady luck on your side today.

That sucks man. You could have hurt someone. Lucky you and others.

Count your blesings hand. There are no "accidents" in God's Universe, IMHO.
Glad everthing worked out. Hope that you learn from this experience. Thanks for posting!

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwoooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww this is nuts. I hope you've learned your lesson and play it smart on the road. I'd rather read your post than read posts about you. Thank the good Lord for his blessings.

Thanks man, I was sick to my stomach. It wasn't like I was trying to Formula 1 my way through the corner, I just wasn't paying enough attention and let her get away from me. It felt like I hit ice and she was gone. But tomorrow the buffer comes out and I will see what I can do with the scuff.

Other than that I am going to push the car wherever I have to go :)

"GOD must love Mustangs!" ----- Of course he does!! He has the legend as his right hand man now. :)

Glad you and the car are ok. Also, much props on telling the lady what happened and that you will fix the mailbox.

If you can't drive the car smart or control it you don't need it. :props:

I actually thought about this story on a sharp turn this morning coming into work in the rain.

what kind of tires are you running? Hope you have summer tires and aren't trying to get away with all seasons...

Consider driving safely next time.

Bring your heavy right foot to the track if you are going to drive like that.

RE: Mustangs

Unless you're referencing one of God's equine species...
I believe God showed he loves a member of the human species that was operating a:
Particular machine, purposefully-manufactured, for a mode of transportation.

I'm grateful you, as well as others, are OK!

:)
