So a friend from a local racing forum picked up a beautiful 2000 Firebird Firehawk with 90k+ on the ODO and has babied it like a true fanatic would. This is one of the cleanest 17 yr old cars that's been enjoyed through it's life that I've come across. He's even had it up and cleaned under it. That said, even clean cars need the swirls removed and their paint corrected to really shine. Add in a nice layer of ceramic coating and that beauty will last and shine nicely for years to come.

From a budgetary standpoint we approached this with my Premium Enhancement Polish Service. For the protection he chose CarPro Cquartz v3.0. Other goodies were Full Glass Coating and restoration and Coating of the Trim/Cowling Area where the wipers/hood have taken a beating. I'll put up some better pics of that in the morning but it's solid black and like new once again and no more need to treat the wipers or cowling with anything for a while.

Process:

  • Wash with CarPro Reset
  • Iron X
  • Nano Mitt Medium Grade
  • Rupes Mille with UHS Pads and Polish
  • CarPro Cquartz 3.0
  • GYEON Q2 TRIM
  • McKee's 37 Glass on windshield
  • GYEON CanCoat on remaining glass

As you can see in the following, the swirls were pretty bad. Light and not too deep but rampant throughout the paint.

Hood:

Notice the lower part of the rocker (top was polished)

Once Polished the color and depth really shows through nicely

Doors were both really bad too

The weather today was bad so hopefully morning will bring some sunshine for pics that show off the results better. Until then, here are a few.

The Tail lights polished out extremely well too. No more swirls in the plastic. Now they really pop!

Headers and a nice Corsa Exhaust really help make it sound as good as she looks. Video forthcoming.

Door Jambs and under the hood are as clean as when new

Even the backside of the hood shines

Awesome work and write up and pictures as always!

Nice depth in that red color.

Did you turn the headlights on and polish them as well? Also thoughts on what to do with the trim that has been coated when the coating starts to near the end of its life?

Awesome work on a pretty rare car. I like the under hood and door sill pics. Shows that you did a real thorough job.

That sure doesn't look like 90k+ miles. You have it looking NEW.

Thanks! The underside of the hood, in the doors, t-tops, flipped lights, etc. were all addressed. It's not perfect as there are some RIDS that were just honestly no worth trying to blend in and remove given the age of the car. I call those "remembrences" that in a positive spin add character to the vehicle. After all, it is 17+ years old.

Couple more quick pics as the customer picked her up.

Ah man! There’s my sweet spot. I love some foodies. Good just b on this one. I wish that mine only had 90k on the clock. I’ve got 230k on mine with factory paint still!!

looks awesome.
a friend of mine had a black 2002 but sold it.
I detailed it over 10 years ago and funny thing is the new owner is on a local car forum.
Still looks really good.

Great work! Red is one of my favorite colors. Glad you're liking the Mille.
