One step or two?

You can see ( not so good in pic) buffer trails/ pig tails.

Meguiars makes some great 1 step compounds that pretty much eliminate 2-3 step process!

I've done two black Mercs with ceramiclear paint, used Menz FG400 with orange cutting pad on both with good results, kept the pad clean, and reduced the pressure on the last 2 passes, results were very good for a 1 step compound!

Is the FG400 the same as WG uber com?

I would like to get away with a one step. I have the WG twins and LC pads. I know I need to do a few test spots and find the right combo. Could I get away with just a one step or do I need a two?

On that paint? You'd be lucky to get away with two steps. I guess it depends on how you want it to look?

Well there's a lot of variables.

Is it your car or someone else's?

Yours, go very aggressive once, get every defect out, then polish and refine out. Wash it carefully, every year do a quick one step with a finishing polish to get out the love marks

Someone else's? One step as much as you can while being as clear as you can! It's never worth chasing everything unless you are getting paid for it or told to do it.

It's mine. And I would like to have it 85% to 90% it's my DD I don't think 100% would be a good goal.

Black too. Nice! I think 90% is good goal. A yellow pad and a good compound will really do you well. Then do a fast second step with a nice finishing polish to refine it. If it's your car and it's black, take the time and do a second step!

Totally agree with you!! I have a Black DD and even dirty it still shines better than any other (so called clean black car) because I TOOK the time and care to do a 2-step. However, I guess some people struggle to want to do that. I will not detail my best friends car (whole process) as I know in less than a week he will be taking the car back to a car wash place or hire some guy $20 to wash the car in the sun at his parking lot.

Some people would rather cut steps to make things clean...but the artists (such as the detailers and I mean EVERYONE on this site) take the time and care and ask great questions to get better. I appreciate this thread and thank you Andr3wilson for your input...I agree!!!

Agree , that's what I'm going to do . Going to do a few test spots with WG twins and WG uber if needed. Pads will be LC org/white/black. Start at the lest and work up if I need too. This is the first ceramic clear coat I've worked on. :buffing:

Andr3wilson like your website. Some great work on some of my fav cars (mercs) love the G500.

So here is a shot of a really neglected '05 Impreza RS.
Meg's Paint Recon Cream on a GG6 with Tangerine pads. I'm very impressed with it and the customer simply couldn't believe the difference a single step would make. It's my go to for all exterior details that don't need or want full correction.

Subaru's butter soft paint makes a perfect candidate for one steps I'd say.
