What kinda of polish/pad combo's would you guys recommend for a one step (hoping for 75% correction) polish (not exactly a one step product) to use with a PCXP on a 500 series Mercedes's hard ass clear coat :)

Thanks in advance

chris

SIP or 105 if you're truly looking to get some correction. Both can finish down nicely on ceramiclear IME. Though this is on their light blue metallic. What color are you working with? If it's light you can get away with these 2.

I might start with SIP / 105 / or even Menzernas Powerfinish but you have to experiment with how they will work against the harder coating and also buffer/pad choices.

When most people use the word one-step they mean it in the context of a one-step, or All-in-One cleaner/wax.

Or for D.O. people, cleaner/sealant.

Is that what you mean? You want a one-step product to clean, polish and protect the paint as best as possible using only one product from start to finish?

That's actually how most production detailing is done.

For that look at XMT 360, this is a one-step cleaner/wax, Meguiar's D151, this is a one-step cleaner/wax.

I've listed all our one-step cleaner/waxes and cleaner/sealants and cleaner/hybrids here,

I use poli-seal as a one step product but I was looking for a polish/pad combo that would do some correcting but also finish out well enough to be near or at LSP ready. I don't think that with the hard clears on the benz I will be able to do this car with just one polishing step... the owner is reluctant to invest the $$$ and give me the time to shoot for a total correction/multi-step process so I was polling the audience for suggestion hoping someone had already tackled this type of issue.

I am not sure how well the poli-seal will cut the paint even if I step up to a orange LC pad with the clear being as hard as it is. I also don't know if an org pad will finish out anywhere nice enough on a hard Clear.. the cars black so I am sure regaurdless i wouldnt be happy with the results

So what you technically want is a two-step process,

  1. Dedicated paint polishing or correction step
  2. Sealing step
Not including the normal basics of washing and claying.

Have you even worked on the car yet?

I've been in this game a long time and always see people posting about how hard or soft a paint is and then when they actually go out into the garage to work on it they find out something different than what they expected.

I don't make judgment on a paint's hardness or softness or a better term is "Polishability" or "Workability" until I actually go out into the garage and work on the car.

Other's can do this all they want but I reserve judgment on all cars until I actually bring my hand or my polisher down onto the paint and do a test spot.

I've had great luck with Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover which is akin to Menzerna Super Intensive Polish on all paint systems, even Corvettes using JUST a D.A. Polisher.

The benefit is that it polishes out LSP ready for a lot of people's standards.

Do you have either of these?

:xyxthumbs:

If a customer only wants to pay for a one-step, by all means give them what the want just explain to them that removing swirls means leveling the paint and that's best done with a multiple step process using dedicated products for dedicated procedures.

Actually, doing a one-step process to the paint is faster and usually more profitable for a customer like this...

My good friend Joe aka Superior Shine will sometimes do a "This or That" for a potential customer and let them decide based on price and after looking at the results. See the article below...

Maybe just get some ColorX and use a polishing pad and whatever you get is what you get, do the glass, dress the tires and move on...
