One thing you learned early/Still true today

Use quality products otherwise you will be tripping over a dollar to save a penny.....

What's the one you learned when you started detailing that still true today? I'll go first. I just started my serious detailing hobby this year. I started with the Klasse twins and 845. So the first thing I learned that's still true today: Spread my products THIN!

DO NOT offer a discount to the guy that says :"I can send you all kinds of business"

stay away from cheapos
:dblthumb2:

:iagree:

And ppl whose main concern is their dirty carpets/uphoulstery

:)

This is the one for me.^^^^

A great body man by the name of "Robert S. (Red) Kohl" once told me, "Boy, don't think for one minute that you aren't going to eventually damage one of these new paint jobs with this buffer, but if you do you're fired."

No pressure there huh?

You never start at the top so mistakes will happen, but you can often (if you're observant) learn from the mistakes of others.

But the good stuff the first time. Don't mess around with cheap stuff.
Hope you don't mind me piggy-backing your post.... but, +1 for real!!!!!

If you can buy it at Autozone, Wally World, Pep Boys, etc..... it's probably best to leave it there.

Take the antenna off the before polishing. First time in 13 years I forgot the other day and sure enough I caught it with my pad on a rotary and got smacked on top of the head with the antenna for my stupidity.

I've seen much worse than what I got. I saw a guy get his stomach split open by an antenna it hit him so hard.

I've only been in the detailing world for a year or so but have learned several lessons already.
-Even if you think you have a process down pat you are constantly learning something every time you touch a vehicle.
-Mistakes will be made throughout your detailing career. The key is to accept the mistake, move on, and let that mistake season you positively as a detailer.
-Nothing prepares you for how you feel after you realized you just gouged/burned through paint.
-You can never have enough MF towels.
-Research a product to death before making a purchase. It will save you a ton of money in the long run. Don't get caught up in the newest product hype.

If you are planning to polish. Always clay first. No matter how perfect you think the finish already is.

And if you are doing a car for the first time. Decontaminate. It will generally need it.

Being new to this, take it slow at first don't try to rush.
