ONR one bucket or two

Towels and mitts aren’t the same thing.. Therefore Bill D. can lay claim to multiple mitt rinseless, and Gary Dean can claim the multiple towel rinseless method.
Minor details matter.

If only YouTube had been around in 2005, Bill D would be the one with the FL detailing business and "juice" store...instead of becoming the reclusive billionaire he is today.

Before learning the Gary Dean Method from Mike at his roadshow class, I was using CG Hoseless Wash. I was following their instructions which say to just do a two bucket wash as normal but no hose. Now what I’ve been doing is taking my collection of washmitts (mostly chenille; about 7/8) and I use the washmitts instead of the MF towels. One bucket with Hoseless and one empty for the used mitts. So far so good. I do us a pump sprayer to do a rinse/soak with the Hoseless wash.

Well look who decides to show up... “Washmitt”

I hope this isn’t 1 of those Russian bots that Crooked Hillary is talking about. Lol. J/k

Hmm....that is rather suspicious...of course, he joined last month, before this thread was even started...but then again, people have been known to slip birth announcements into US papers way ahead of having to use them as "proof"...

Says he attended the roadshow... But none of his classmates remember him.lol. J/k

I’m actually from Hawaii too with that recent “false alarm”. Maybe I am just a figment of my own imagination!!!
Really though-hilarious guys

I have been doing my rinseless washes with one bucket and MF towels. I never reintroduce the dirty towel into the wash solution so I never really see the need for a grit guard. However, I am thinking of pulling the trigger and getting the Optimum BRS. If go this route I would definitely put a grit guard in the bucket.

The BRS has had great reviews and it would cut down on my use of tons of towels for rinseless.

Anyone else using the BRS???

I use the BRS. 2 buckets, one with just water and grit guard / washboard. The other with grit guard and Uber rinseless. Works great. I use the BRS to wash a pre-soaked car, then use a Cobra to do the first wipe down (doesn't dry completely). Blow the cracks and crevices then use a PFM with Uber at quick detailer ratio to finish drying. The first time I used the BRS I was scared but it's harmless and does a great job. I scrub it on the washboard and then it goes back in the wash bucket.

I’m surprised there is not a three bucket method. Considering the rinse bucket water gets dirty. Lol

Pretty sure I remember seeing Todd Helme use MF towels to wash instead of a wash mitt and using multiple towels before anyone else, way back in the day.

I use the big blue sponge from Lake country with onr. You don't need 50 mitts with onr, you can drop your sponge on the ground send dip it back into your wash bucket. It'll be fine. Onr does what it's supposed to.

ONR is the only way I wash, with two bucket method, rinse bucket with grit guard, and wash bucket no guard. I think two bucket is just good practice for all situations (for ex. if not regularly washing car, parked outside, or winter grime) and doesnt take any real extra effort or time. Ive used ACE grout sponges 7x5x2 for years (recently bought LC blue sponge to try in the future).

I dont like the GD method (let alone the cost of his rinseless solution), why consume time, money, and laundry duty with so many towels when grout sponges make wash process quick, porous which easily traps/releases dirt, really easy to clean, durable and inexpensive.

ONR in a single bucket with BRS and grit guard. Prespray with pump sprayer helps. Works great. The BRS holds a lot of solution and capillary action helps bring the dirt away from the surface. Squeezing the sponge pushes the dirt out and to the bottom of the bucket.

I've never understood the 2BM. All it does is dilute the soap solution and make it less effective. Using multiple mitts from a clean bucket is much better.

One bucket and a grit guard is all you need. Let ONR do what it does best. I've been using it for nine years now and the big red sponge for about a year and a half. Plus with a second rinse bucket you technically run the chance of further diluting your wash bucket. Speaking of which, I've seen people use ONR at 1:128 which is a waste. 1:256 is the optimum (no pun intended) ratio.

I always did until I watched this video (6:15 mark) featuring Yvan Lacroix, global training director for Optimum. Now I use one bucket with a grit guard.

Exactly how I use it.

One bucket. Do the GD method. Toss used towel in another bucket and pull out a fresh towel. Easier, faster and cleaner.

You will be amazed at how much more efficient ONR and the BRS are compared to the GD method.

Been using one bucket with the BRS for over a year now and no issues. No marring and much more efficient than using multiple towels. I do use a grit guard in the bucket. I use the solution on multiple cars and never had an issue.

Optimum recently released a gold version which is even softer as part of their coating maintenance line.

Yup I do the same thing.

Good video for others to grasp the concept.

Used to be all hot and heavy using ONR and the BRS. I loved it...!

Gave it up after about the 7 or 8th wash---BRS started to scratch the paint. You could hear and feel it tearing up the paint.

Had to toss the sponge in the trash. And polish out the scratches afterwards.

Mind you---I was very, very careful with making sure the sponge was clean before, during and after. It was stored and put away in a protective bag.

Paint was scratched pretty bad---never, never again! Towels are cleaner, safer and easily washed and reused.

I really liked the BRS but once its toast...its toast and nothing will bring it back. Whereas with towels, just wash, inspect and then stored until next wash.

Tom

Sounds like you may have gotten something in the sponge. Did you ever clean it?

Oh yes...tried to clean it but never was the same. Had to toss it. Really tried...because I loved it.

Guess, once something gets into it, it's toast. In all fairness---it happened to my first sponge, never bothered to get another one. Too pissed after the car got scratched up!

Towels, so much easier to keep clean.
