I hit this hood with m105 and i am left with this which looks like a sap etching maybe clear coat failure. have a couple other small ones like this. Opinions?

It looks like etching/failure, which I find is usually caused by bird bombs. There is no way of fixing it that I am aware of other than repainting.

Hard to tell what the size of that is, but yes, from birds most likely, and as 1fastTbird said, nothing you can do to fix it. Be careful with too much polishing, because you can make it worse. Sometimes an oily glaze or heavy wax can lessen the appearance, not sure what one of the sealant-y glazes like Poorboys Black Hole or Prima Amigo would do for it.

Agree, looks like bird crap etching (Type II).

More from Mike Phillips here http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...s/24924-two-types-bird-dropping-etchings.html.
"Type II Bird Dropping - Fractured/Wrinkled Etching Type II Wrinkled Etchings are usually too deep to fix safely. The problem is the paint fractures, (splits apart in tiny lines,), or wrinkles as the paint swells and bunches together. In both instances, the resulting defect is throughout the clear layer of paint and not topical. Thus trying to remove it will require removing so much clear paint that you will likely expose the basecoat, or colored layer of paint which has a dull appearance. For this reason it's not safe to try to remove a Type II Bird Dropping Wrinkled or Fractured Etching."

Looks like the typical clear coat failure seen in older black Hyundai Santa Fe paint.

It is possible that you could repair this by wetsanding. Based on the pics, I would give that a shot. Go on Youtube and search for wet sanding and there is one specifically for bird etching.

Once you get the technique down on wet sanding that is just another thing you know in your arsenal.

I would give that a try before repainting. Make sure you follow the advise of most of the Youtube videos.

I know Junkman2000 has one and I can't remember his name he has one for a bird bomb and he is from New York and has his own products he sells too. I can't remember his name but someone here could chime in.

After you finish wet sanding then compound/polish like you normally do.

I think you are looking for Ammo NYC....

JMP thanks!! You are correct!! He is a pretty cool guy too and he actually mentions/compliments Mike Phillips a couple of times in his Youtube videos.

Ammo NYC has a specific video on Youtube that shows you how to remove Bird doo doo etching.
