Are the 4 inch pads sufficient to use on those areas that the Griot's 3 inch orbital polisher advertises to reach? I have the PC7424XP and would like to make my life easier by either purchasing the Griot's 3 inch polisher or going with the cheaper route and purchasing the necessary adapters to use smaller pads. The only thing is that Lake Country only makes 4 inch pads (that I know of).

Thanks!

Get a LC 3.5" backing plate and some LC 4" pads. The Griot's 3" polisher is under powered compared to the full size Griot or PC.

I've got 2 full size DAs (PC v1 & GG6") as well as the GG3". I initially bought the 3" for my bikes. I've since realized it's a bit anemic for serious correction but found it handy for things I hadn't anticipated like spreading wax and sealants one-handed. It's also handy for painted areas underneath bumpers.

LC makes more sizes of pads than you see carried most places. AG sells the 4 & 3.5" PFW I know of ONE guy that carries orange & white LC 3 1/4" CCS pads. LC isn't the only game in town.. GG makes smaller pads as do 3M and Buff & Shine. It's sometimes just a question of finding what you're looking for.

That said, you can get smaller backing plates and smaller pads for the PC but that doesn't mean you're going to be able to fit the machine's body where you need to. Same holds true for the GG 3" but it definitely fits more places. And there's some times you just have to work by hand.

Generally speaking, the smaller the pad the more concentrated the correcting power. That doesn't apply to the GG 3". In order to achieve any semblance of correction you almost have to choose a more aggressive pad/polish/compound combo than you would otherwise.

That's a long way to go without answering your question... yeah, the 4" pads will get most places you need to and the 2.75" backing plate with 3" pads ought to work fine on the PC. The GG 3" can be a handy tool and you'll find ways to use it if you have one. IMO, you can live without the 3" GG and put your money elsewhere.

do you need to change the weight inside for the 4 inch pads?
