Opinions on the best sealant

Has anyone heard or used PRO/BAF Paint Sealants?
(Link Removed out of respect) I was told of this by one of the top body men for a large autobody organization. I've searched the net and found that it won some awards about 10 years ago but nothing much else.

Since this is your first post your probably not aware that posting links to competitor sites (not that it appears to be much competition) is against AGO rules. I'm sure it was an oversite:props:

BTW, :welcome: to AGO!

Oh, and FWIW my favorite sealants are WG DGPS and UPGP

For my milder winters and a two car garage, durability isnt a concern. I llove UPGP. It is too easy and I feel like Im cheating. I also like BFWD. UPGP has a more hard candy look IMO.

For a paint sealant UPGP, but I am transitioning towards the nano coatings like Gtechniq C1, Cquartz and Opti-Coat

Aero can you put a carnuaba wax over the nano sealant as an added layer of protection?

Since we have no idea what you have used then it means nothing ;)
And since it is very unlikely that any of us have tried them all, what one person claims to be the best means nothing. IMHO the prep is far more important than the sealant and the BFWD is good enough for me. These "what is the best" threads generally mean nothing as they are way too vague and the proper answer would be "it depends." ;)

Well you could, but I doubt it would add any more protection. The ones I mentioned last around 2 years, depending on conditions.

:iagree:

That said, Opti-Seal, BFWD, and Jeff's Werkstat are some of my favorite sealants. Which one gets used depends on a variety of factors, including paint color.

I'm looking for your opinions on the best sealant. What product(s) do you think has the best shine and durability?Feed back please

Sealants with the best durability are probably the new coatings like Opti-Coat which was mentioned earlier. If I remember correctly, Consumer Reports recommended Nu Finish as the best sealant with 12 month durability a few years back. :)

What defines best shine for you? Do you like a hard candy, mirror look? Do you want a shimmering wet look? Do you prefer a carnauba like 3D glow?

I'm a 3D carnauba-like glow guy 1st, swirling wet liquid look 2nd, and hard candy, mirror look 3rd. Some will say that one look may be better with a specific paint color versus another.

I happen to like WG DGPS and I bought it because I prefer a carnauba leaning look. I've gotten 6 months of good protection with weekly car washes, but I also used OCW over the top at ~3 months with two cars.

I've only used DGPS after correcting and polishing the vehicles that I've tried it on. I have now used it with white, champagne beige, charcoal metallic grey and metallic silver. I have not used it on dark blue, fire engine red or black, but I expect it to work very well with proper paint prep.

So now to answer your most pressing question. No, I haven't used Nu Finish. It may be really great stuff but you can read all about it in Consumer Reports... ;)

I am happy to give an enthusiastic thumbs-up to the "Big White," Finish Kare 1000p. I recently applied three coats of it to our silver blue CR-V. It bestows a special look. Some folks describe it as if an extra layer of clear coat has been applied--this seems about right. The car looks terrific. 1000p is reputed to be one of the most durable synthetic sealants presently available. I'm hoping it will get us through next April. We shall see.

It is easy to apply and remove (like all sealants and waxes, apply thin), and at $16 for a 15 oz. tin, it's a bargain!

Isn't this a wax not a sealant ?

It's in the form of a paste wax, but it's made of 100% synthetic materials. Doesn't that qualify it as a sealant by definition?

Synthetic just means man made. Doesn't necessarily mean a sealent

Doesn't Meg's M21 Sealant contain a lot of fillers also? So it will make a very neglected paint finish look awesome as opposed to a sealant that does not fill and just enhances the look of the paint?

I used 4*UPP and was happy with that, though it didn't seem to last very long, maybe 2-3 months. I then used Wolfgang 3.0 and that gave an awesome carnauba like glow and so far seems to be outlasting the 4*. I'm thinking that will be my new go to sealant on my personal cars, but I am thinking of trying the M21 on my production details over D151 since that doesn't seem to have the staying power of a true sealant.

I used megs M21before last years winter ( and we all know what that was like) specially here in the northeast YIKES! i was happy with it through the winter, and my car was out in the cold and snow the whole time.

Perhaps, Johnny, you'd like then to explain why 1000p is not properly described as a sealant. If you do a search of the major detailing forums, you will see that 1000p is typically referred to as a sealant.

I was under the impression that a synthetic "wax" is called a sealant, because it doesn't really contain any natural wax, but it still protects the paint like a wax.

I think that also fits the description that Mike Phillips uses in the following thread:
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...erence-between-cleaner-wax-finishing-wax.html

Here is a quote from the first post in the above thread:
...Paint protection products are also divided into two other groups or categories and that's car waxes or paint sealants.

Car Wax
Contains some kind of naturally occurring waxy type substance, for example Carnauba wax.

Paint Sealant
Made from synthetic or all man-made ingredients.

I recently used Menz Power Lock. Like it very much.

Got my shipment from AG yesterday of this and some new pads, so I went to town on the drivers side of my truck. Put the power lock on at about 11:15pm, around midnight I took it off and let it cure over night. Today it looks awesome!! Slick wet look that I was looking for. Now I need to get the rest of the truck done and before winter put a nice top coat of Collinite 845.
