Opti Bond Streaking

I'm betting its the silicone left over from Endurance! ;)

I have a bottle of that messy stuff here that must be 3~4 years old. Just don't have the call to use it on anything I'm doing the last few years. :dunno:

Even though your logic sounds right, unfortunately that's not the issue because I tried Opti bond on another set of tires that have never met a tire dressing before and it still streaked... I was doing a test with chemical guys new car shine dressing and Opti bond. The OB streaked on some spots and the CG NCS did not even bond with the tire. It had dried off completely! So I think this equates to having a bad technique on cleaning tires.

Perhaps so. Maybe try (as I think was suggested) APC+ at 4:1. I use it at 4:1 on tires exclusively, as well as the wheel wells. Sometimes a little degreaser doesn't hurt either.

:iagree: BIG TIME!!!!!!

I still get streaking from optibond. This time I scrubbed my tires well with undiluted d101 and the gel does not want to bond!

Opti bond is now my fav. tire dressing. Perfect with the CARRAND APPLICATOR BRUSH. I use megs APC (orange) to clean my tires. Never had a issue with bonding.

I don't know why mine streaks...what dilution do you use to clean your tires with Meg's APC?

4:1

Now the first time i used OB, it took two appications to really bond to the tire. But it never streaked. Now just one bead on the brush will do it.

Anyone else had this problem?

I had the issue when I first started using it, although the tires were previously dressed with either Endurance Gel or CG VRP+. I was cleaning the tires with Mothers All Wheel and Tire and experienced the issue. Since then I have switched to Meguiar's Non-Acid Tire and Wheel and never had a streaking issue on customer's vehicles. Although there may be other variables, it is what I have found to work.

That is how it looks like. Its very ugly

Try applying it thinner? Opti-bond is probably one of my least favorite dressings, but I agree you shouldn't be having the issues that you are having.

Is it maybe a faulty product?

First off the streaking will come out with a second coat and use a micro fiber towel to knock down the shine to the desired level.
Second the cleaning is to remove the previous dressing or real road grime. Any decent cleaner with sufficient agitation will give good base for the dressing. I like a product that changes color to tell you it has removed the dirt. Tire dressings are like last applied products on paint. Don't like clean off and reapply

Just an FYI, some dressings work better with some tires than others. It's a crap shoot. For whatever reason, some dressings don't lay perfectly on certain tires - while others do.

But, I'm confident if the tires are cleaned 100% you will get good results with OB (yes I know this is an old thread). The problem how I see it is, APCs just won't clean all tires of all old dressings and gunk.

Some people have to go trough like 5 or 6 cleanings with Tuff Shine Tire Cleaner (the best stuff out there now IMHO to clean tires) to get a tire perfectly clean. Once a solvent or oil type dressing has been sitting on a tire (porous) for a while - it can be extremely difficult and time consuming to remove.

Even brand new tires come with their fair share of gunk on them. Be it something from the manufacturing process or something on the tire to protect it.

Cleaning tires is no joke. There is clean - and then there is CLEAN. In order to get CLEAN, I'd recommend TS Tire Cleaner, their tire brush, and several rounds of cleaning - rinsing both the brush and the tire with copious amounts of water several times.

There is nothing wrong with OptiBond. Like a zillion people have used it successfully. While it may not lay down perfectly with every type of tire (same goes for any other dressing) - you can get good to excellent results if the tire is CLEAN.

Once the initial application is made successfully, you likely won't have an issue after that.

Of course, if this was my daily driver, I'd just use TS Tire Coating after cleaning - so I'd never have to worry about cleaning the tire with any effort again.
