Opti-coat on wheels - Worth it?

I'm getting my 2014 GTI professionally detailed tomorrow. (3-step with Optimum gloss coat) I have the option of getting the wheels sealed with opti-coat for an extra $100. For those of you that have used opti-coat on your wheels, is it worth it? I'd be interested in your thoughts regarding protection, durability, longevity, etc. I dropped off my car at the detailer this evening and told him I'd do some research and let him know in the morning if I was interested. Thanks in advance!
 
That's great you asked one of the questions I was just thinking about. Im buying a 2016 WRX with only 15k miles. Private sale of course. Now I need to protect that paint and wheels. I wanted to go with Wolfgang sealant for the paint but I don't know if sealant and opticoat can be used together. I plan on driving the car all year round so it needs the best protection possible.

Any thought?

Coating is more resistant to stuff than a sealant in theory. So optimum gloss coat for the paint and wheels. Could always top with Wolfgang later but would recommend using opti seal instead for topping down the road.

If the $100 doesn't bother you then yes. It makes a big difference in looks and cleaning.
 
Can I still use an APC (OPC 3:1) with brush for regular cleanings without impacting the opti-coat?
 
Can't tell you if APC can be used without impacting opti-coat but why? With coatings, it should clean very easily w/o using harsh materials.
That is one of main benefits of coatings. Nothing sticks to coatings.

Yep understood. I was just curious how resilient the coating is. (Do I need to be extra careful with cleaners so as to not strip the coating, etc.). Or is this stuff pretty much bullet proof.
 
If you regularly wash the car, all you will need is soap and water. When I am feeling lazy sometimes I just spray some QD on a wheel towel, wipe it down and they look mint.
 
It's worth it to have them coated. Makes cleanup effortless. $100? I would do it myself for much less. If the $ doesn't matter, do it. Soap and water will be all you need to wash the wheels when coated. Should last 12 months.
 
I have opti coat on my wheels and it makes cleaning a lot easier. I think it's worth it.
 
Is that $100 quote for a wheels off that includes coating the barrels? Price sounds great!
Why not ask for a quote on the 12 month removal and re-application of the Opti-Coat on the wheels
That may influence your final decision, let us know

Whole heartedly agree since can get McKee's 37 Wheel Coating here for $35...but then again, I'm more of a do-it-yourself type person.
 
Yes! I always recommend coating the wheels. It's much easier to maintain a set of coated wheels.
 
Definitely worth it and one of the benefits to coating is that they are much more resistant to chemicals and cleaners. If they're doing the barrels too for $100 that's a VERY reasonable price. Most guys are charging $400+ to do all 4 wheels inside and out.
