Opticoat 2.0 application NIGHTMARE

Another option is the Tuf Shine Applicator

Thanks. The applicator that comes with the coating sucks. That's why I don't use them. They waste too much product, too grabby, I can go on and on. This method is used very commonly and is why I chose to do it this way..shown here...

Opti-Coat Application Methods - YouTube

ya live and ya learn...

When using the spray method would you have to mask off areas of the car to avoid over spray onto those areas?

Thanks

this could be your issue...

why would you do that? (serious question not smart mouthing..)

I took his statement as that is what he did in an attempt to remove the OC because of the marring, not as one of the steps in his application.

Could be wrong.

Correct. I wanted to attempt to remove the coating if possible, so it would make polishing easier to remove the marring.

OC takes 30+ days to fully cure, so polishing will remove it quite easily.

I don't know what polishes you have but anything above a fine finishing polish (M205 and Menzerna 2500)

Aside from the method of application, I think it is also fair to note that Corvette paint, of any color, is a pita to deal with. And you just happend to land on a black one. D: I feel your feels sir.

Ya'll aren't answering my questions lol. I understand there are other methods and I'll surely use these methods next time. But are none of you surprised? This is a popular way of applying opticoat and to have it turn out like this is crazy!

What to do now?

The issue is that paper towel combined with easily marred paint...never understood why people use those.

IMO, leave the towels for wiping up messes and either use the supplied foam applicator, the one Evan posted, or the CarPro micro suede.

Are the suede applicator towels similar to eye glass lens towels?

Luckily I got everything cleaned up today. The marring cleaned up rather quickly via M205 and a crimson LC Hydro pad, via Makita 9227c. I redid the hood, top, and hatch all in less than 2 hours time, got the car coated, and it's now curing. Thanks for the tips, advice, and sympathy lol. I def learned my lesson here, the hard way, and the end result is still a bad to the bone, dripping wet Black C6 that will be protected for years to come.

Not to mention the car made 748rwhp, 798 ft lbs. It's a built LS3 with a Vortech V3 and I think methanol as well. I'll do a separate thread for the car once I get it out for finished pics tomorrow.

Yea I am really glad you got it all sorted out man! Looks great in the garage, can't wait to see the outside pics tomorrow!

Thanks for this thread OP! Looking for methods for applying OC 2.0

I will skip the shop towel method!

What's up man! Looks great After you got it fixed, since you are from the upstate figured I would say hello... I live up here in travelers rest. Just went and liked ya on FB as well.. Keep up the good work
