It looks like I am going to be getting my new truck opticoated when it comes in. My questions are this.

Once my truck is opticoated do I need to wax it or is it pretty much just washing it?

Will waxing it make it look any better? I know the wax may not last very long but would it look and feel better?

Would you stay with the optimum brand once its opticoated?

Yeah, if you wax on top of the Opti-Coat it's probably going to have a little more pop, and it will certainly feel slicker, for as long as it lasts. No need to stay with the Optimum brand.
 
Opti Coat wont require anything other than proper washing technique... but you can top it with Optimum Instant Detailer and Gloss Enhancer if you feel like you want something on top.

im going to test Hydro2 on my wife's Opti Coated highlander today out of curiosity.

I have another question for you. Once my truck is coated, and say a month later I want to wax it what do I need to do? Do I have to clay it and polish it first?

Slow down a little. Hopefully a month after Opti-Coat nothing will be stuck to it that would need to be clayed. Polishing will remove some or all of the Opti-Coat. If you want to wax it, just wash it and wax it.

If something is stuck to it can you just clay it and then wax over it?
 
clark you will see when you get the opticoat that it is truly amazing...

i cant see anything sticking to it that will need clayed...you can clay it safely, and could be part of an annual maintenance, but only do it if required...

id tend to look at using ironx or P21s total auto wash before clay...but not at the 30 day mark....

a good wash is all you should need like setec said.

That sounds like a plan. Thanks for your help guys. Does the opticoat have a nice wet look to it? Especially on black?
 
i think it looks good on black...here are a couple pics of my truck done with opti-coat



 
If your wash method is solid, you'll go much longer between polishing and claying sessions. Also, as recommended earlier OID looks great on the coating adding gloss and slickness with quick application and its very economical.

Your Ram looks great. How did you "section off" that big ol' truck when you applied Opti-Coat?

I just used the body panel as the section...

hood-quartered it
roof - quartered it
rear - halved it
