Just curious how this stuff is. I was just browsing around the store, and came across this stuff on sale. I know sometimes things that are on sale usually mean they aren't selling.

Anybody try this stuff out? From the description, it sounds like it could be a useful compound to have on hand.

I think it's on sale because it's been obsoleted by the spray compound. I only have the original version of the compound which didn't have much cut, but that's at least a tweak and a version away from what you're talking about.

Hmmm...well, I'll probably ignore it then, ha. Doesn't seem that too many people are crazy about it.

i used it last year on my da cranked up last year and it worked great for me-i think its overlooked

Compound 2 is a nice product for cutting light defects, it has a long working time and finishes near wax ready. I use it for cheaper details where the pay only warrants one polishing step. Makita + white polishing foam pad + compound 2 = nice quick shine.

Ahhhh, see that's exactly what I was thinking. When I read the description it sounded like a compound I'd like to use. Especially as a one step. I tend to lean towards compounds with a good working time. I may pick some up just to have it around.

Someone gave me a compound with glaze in it the other day..... I think it is called UNO Compound - from a local distributer..... is this normal?!?!?! I have about 3 different compounds with different level cuts, then glaze, then speed wax, etc. Dont think Ive tried a compound and glaze in one - maybe I have in the past and didnt know it..... did I come across something good here?!?!?

UNO can be used first with a cutting pad then polishing then finishing pad all with the same product

i used to mix it with 105 to give the 105 a longer working time. never had much use for it as a standalone though.

I don't know...sounds like a contradiction to me. I mean compound is meant to cut. Glaze is meant to remove swirls, hide imperfections, and in some cases leave protection. The two together kinda just cancel each other out to me, ha.

Haven't used it with the makita or cyclo yet - but I am definitely interested in trying it out. I used it by hand at night (so not a great idea of its potential) ..... it took out some swirls but not all and did put a sheen on it. If it works good, may be a one step for me - this is why I let my betterhalfs ride go lol - to test products like this :dblthumb2:........ will do a review for sure.

i love it. it totally depends on the pad. you need aggressive? run it with an aggro pad and it works fast and finishes pretty well. if you need something a little more mild, just use a pad with less mechanical cut and watch it finish almost like a fine polish! it has a long working time, dusting is minimal...i love it, seriously.

the thing with optimum is he refines what for most companies would be an already ideal product even more and once he makes a significant enough advancement, the next thing comes on the market. the problem ends up that the original product wasn't bad, in fact many times it was at the top if not the best available, but his drive to develop is REALLY strong and hence, these situations arise.

if the deal is solid, get a bottle and try it. as i said i love his compound.

I feel like I'd really like it. Just from reading the description...it sounds like something I'd really dig. I'm just gonna throw it in the cart, and use it up. From the sounds of it...it sounds like a killer product IMO.

Sorry to respond late...Compound II is only on sale because we have reformulated it to have more cut. We will continue to have parallel lines of paste and spray products...nothing has been discontinued.

So, to clarify there was Optimum Compound, Optimum Compound II (sale), and now Optimum Compound II (New Formula March 2011)

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, this is a great opportunity to ask this:

i am used to the original formula compound from a couple years ago and the original hyper from the same era. can you rank the following in terms of aggressiveness from least to most and note where there are big jumps in cut?

OG compound
OG hyper
compound II
new compound II
hyper compound spray

thanks!

4. OG compound
2. OG hyper
3. compound II
1. new compound II
1. hyper compound spray

WOW! the two new ones are stronger than the original hyper?! very interesting. i found the old hyper to be pretty darn aggressive, hehe. but i do understand the finish aspect of these new formulas is second to none. i would imagine it's like the best features of the old compound i'm used to combined with the best features of the hyper i'm used to, but with more cut potential. i am going to switch over.

thanks!

They finish better so that may make them seem less aggressive but they will remove the same defects quickly but leave it looking better.
