I agonized over how to polish and wax my wife's friend's Mercedes after she asked for help a month back. Finally spent Monday helping her wash and getting the paint cleaned up which meant taking out bird dropping etchings, a few swirls and marring from a garage door encounter with the trunk.

I had a pint of CG polish that dusts like crazy, drys too quickly and wouldn't cut through a patch of bird dropping etched paint with a PCXP and 4" orange flat pads. That's twice that I've tried the CG and I am not impressed even though I got it cheap and figured that I could use it for a "free polish and wax." I prefer the Optimum and WG polishes. I decided to try some Optimum Compound II with another pad on the bird dropping etching instead of the CG. The Optimum compound II doesn't dust and I was able to remove most of the bird dropping etching.

I was able to get the paint to a nice finish without moving to a finishing polish just using the orange pad at 5 speed. I ended up using the Compound II for the entire car. I tried using a white pad with the Optimum finish polish but didn't really see a difference. I was surprised as I was told to expect the need for a finish polish on the ceramic paint and lots of work.

We tried the Optimum Spray Car Wax and the car looks better than new. She can also now wash and wax her own car now that I did the major work.

Moral of the story, the Optimum Compound II finished better than I expected and the Spray Car Wax is terrific. If you are going to work on a Metallic Dark Blue 2009 Mercedes C class and need a quick solution, I was very happy with the compound II without additional polishes using a 4" flat pad and PCXP. I will try to add pictures tomorrow once I download the pictures from my camera.

I just recently tried Optimum Polish II and I'm a big fan. I think the new Optimum polishes are much improved over the old ones.

CGs polishes lag far behind most decent polishes that are readily available for sure, but are in no way representative of the rest of their product line which is almost always great. Thanks for the review! I think I might look into the compounds since I love Power Gloss, but it can be a royal pain in the neck to use sometimes.
