Optimum compound, or Menz IP??

When an Optimum polish is hard to remove, 1.) you have used way too much or 2.) you didn't break it properly down.

Even with my short throw DA (2 mm), Optimum polishes can be broken down in 1-2 minutes on speed 6.

Two pea sized drops on a 16 cm pad is totally sufficient (OP/OC). OHC is runnier but the dosage should be similar.

:iagree: 100%. I have had nothing but good results from OP and OC once I started using the correct amounts. I have never had problem removing it though.

I was making a X shape on my 6 inch CCS pad with the optimum polishes and compound. That is way more than a couple of pea sized drops!!!!! Is that why I was getting less than favourable results? After a couple of minutes on 5 or 6 with either product I wasn't seeing the level of scratch removal that I was expecting.

Pat.

Pat, yes, the amount was huge. You've already experienced the "skating on itself" phenomenon. When the buffing film is too thick between the substrate and the pad, the abrasives in the Optimum can not strike it through and hence no correction. The micro grit will eventually clump together somewhere inside the emulsion and cause scratches and/or marring.

Try to prime the pad with 4-5 pea sized drops and use 2 drops for each subsequent working area.
