Optimum forum down?

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Our Hosting Company was migrating to a new server yesterday, but our site didn't come back on as scheduled. I'm working to get it restored ASAP. I can still be reached via email and PM if needed.

Who is your hosting company? Obviously they aren't too smart when it comes to dealing with DNS propagation -- should have lowered the TTLs at least 24-48 hours in advance of the migration so the cache would update quickly.

With issues like that, i bet they're using SQL-Server on the back end :bolt:

Umm.... pretty much ALL forums use a SQL backbone.

I'm not happy to say the least. We were supposed to be back online by 6pm yesterday and I hate the cheesy parking page they used...makes it look like were gone.

Yup, DNS cache issue.

do you know if you are using Oracle or Microsoft SQL-Server on the backend for your database?

Obviously you're not familiar with web hosting. Most all sites like that are running on a Linux platform and run MySQL.

I have no understanding of such things but why did another advert take over the site offering cash, insurance etc instead of a 'page not found'

That was a parking page that the registrar puts up when a domain name expires. I finally got to the bottom of it and we're back up now. Thanks for your understanding and accept my apologies for any inconvenience.

There you go.... something not normal. ;-)

Ummm..... I'm in IT as well and the MSSQL vs. Oracle battle has been going on for over 20 years. It won't be solved on this thread. Each has it's place in the market.

^^^ I agree...

Charlie - i never said i know anything about web hosting... My expertise is in database administration with Oracle... Not really sure why you are brining up MySql, but if that's what a lot of web forums run on, that are running on Linux O.S.'s that's good to know...

I'm not here to debate Oracle Vs SQL-Server, i'm just stating my opinion, and i assumed it would fire some people up on here, but what the hay that's what these forums are for. :)

GMCK - i never said i knew SQL-Server, but i do have entensive knowledge in PL/SQL and Oracle... Again, i'm not here to debate oracle vs ms.

Not sure why I'm bringing it up? Because I felt it would be useful to mention what is actually used for web hosting purposes, not that it has anything even remotely to do with the issue here.
