Optimum Gloss Coat Paint Protection Performance Testing

Hey guys, I just wanted to share a little product review of a paint coating that I have applied to my Raptor about 6 months ago. Being a professional detailer I like to test different products on my own vehicles before I apply them to a clients car, and to help myself be knowledgeable about the products I offer. With that being said I made a little video yesterday testing the performance of the polymer based paint protective coating Optimum Gloss Coat. Note: My truck has sat outside everyday for the past 5 months since it's been applied.

Optimum Gloss Coat has a life span of 2 years and protects against industrial fallout, acid rain, bird droppings, UV rays, and light swirls and scratches. Gloss Coat is very slick and has good hydrophobic properties which aides in the ease of washing the vehicle and helps safely remove dirt and other contaminants. However, while it is not the best coating on the market it provides great bang for your buck protection against harsh elements and road grime.

That's great. What kind of car shampoo and QD do you use to maintain this car?

Chemical Guys Melon scented foam soap with a foam canon for pre wash. Then I use either Zaino or Griots Garage car wash soap for the two bucket wash. I actually have never used any quick detailer or spray wax to maintain it (for testing purposes). If I was to use one I would choose Megs express wax.
 
Looks like the matte vinyl could use a little protection ;) or maybe I'm just dumb. Cant wait to coat the DD in opti!
 
Great performance, reading the comments on youtube, I agree that the beading is more impressive than other videos I've seen.

- Can be the method of application? how CC use to coat the entire car?, old or new version?

- Or can be the preparation?, use OPT polishes or others?, there is much talk of the bond of gloss coat depends largely of the polishes used. (oils/solvent based)
 
If optimum Gloss isn't the best coating, what is, in your opinion and why?
 
I can tell you that its not blackfire! I used it the other day and it was a sticky mess! I was hoping that it was going to be an easy process like opti coat. It took me forever to level it. It was a brand new bottle that I purchased several weeks ago. I followed the instructions and I applyed a very thin coat as I do with opt coat. After five minutes it was still sticking and dryed to a haze. After 30 minutes of buffing I was finaly able to level the product.
 
With all due respect any analysis or opinion for any coating based on only five months is supposed to say what? You can get five months of protection after a 15 minute spray on session with Prima HydroMax or even using Carpro Hydro2 which requires no effort. It may be a great coating but....

So that is the the version previous to what they are selling now. How much product did it take to do the truck?

Yeah I was set up to go for the blackfire coat due to it being thicker and more resistant to other coatings.. More so since it was in BOGO
But then seen reviews of it being very temperamental with weather...then pretty much going bad shortly after being opened..

Gloss coat and the uber ceramic seems to be where its at

The truck had a paint correction maybe a few months prior to applying Gloss Coat. I wiped the entire truck down with IPA and applied it from there. I'm not sure why it beads better then some expect it would. I followed the application steps supplied by OPT and that's it lol.

Yes it is the old version. I did just buy the new version though.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great coating and I like it a lot. However from a hardness perspective it's not going to give you the same kind of scratch protection that CQuartz Finest, or Ceramic Pro. That's why OPT has Opti-Coat Pro

I was just testing the performance to see how it was holding up.. As I mentioned the truck would sit outside everyday exposed to the elements.

I bought the 20cc syringe so you could probably get 2 more cars out of it. So far I have done one other car with that same syringe, and a few windshields and there is still some product left.

May I ask what method you choose to apply the product with, the supplied foam or micro suede towel and block method? I know you said thin but how many drops per panel? Secondly did you wipe the car with ipa or a optimum paint prep prior to application? All reviews state Gloss Coat is so simple to apply, so I am interested to hear the full details. Sorry you had such a tough time.
