After watching both videos on the Optimum Hyper Compound/Polish video (great vid btw):props: I have changed my mind to go with this combo setup for my car.

I initially was going to go with megs 105/205 combo, but the more I read about the dusting issues with the megs the less I wanted to go with that combo. I am also a newbie with a DA and it seems the Opti product will be easier to work with.

My question is that since the Opti Hyper Polish can correct small scratches and swirls based on the pad.. is it really necessary to get the Compound?

I will be using this on my Supra. The car has been painted about 1.5 years ago and has never been polished/waxed and there is no oxidation. There are a lot of light to medium scratches and swirl marks everywhere. The car is garaged kept but it has seen it's fair share of the elements.

I was thinking to start out with the Opti Compund with LC orange pad to start. I will be using a Flex DA as well.

Thanks!

Welcome to Autogeek!!

Earlier today I posted the test and results using Optimum Hyper Polish Spray so it'll go well with your questions below.

The condition of the surface and level of defects will determine whether you should start with Optimum Hyper Compound or Optimum Hyper Polish Spray.

With most compounds I'll either start off with a yellow (medium cut) or orange (light cut) Lake Country Kompressor foam pad. Occasionally I'll resort to a purple (heavy cut) Kompressor pad but not all that often.

In general I only use Kompressor pads on my Makita rotary and love them.

Kompressor Pads

  • Purple (heavy cut)
  • Yellow (medium cut)
  • Orange (light cut)
For the Flex 3401 and Porter Cable 7424 I use flat or smart pads and the colors still correspond to the level of cut.

Flat or CCS Smart Pads

  • Yellow (medium cut)
  • Orange (light cut)
