Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer

As promised, David Ghodoussi is a real nice guy.

I won't post our correspondence but he suggested that it may be an incompatibility between OID and P21S 100%. He suggested another try immediately following a wash, which I'll do either this Sunday or (due to the holiday) next. I'll report back on my findings then.

Mr. Ghodoussi also very graciously offered to refund or replace the product in question, officially making him a Real Class Act(tm).
I told ya! I had placed an order this Wednesday with David himself and he was a very, very nice guy. He said that he would have it here this Friday.:righton:

Did you dilute it 1 part to 3 parts water as instructions state? Just curious. I just got some and haven't used it yet and want to make sure I use it correctly. I also got the Optimum Spray wax, which went on pretty easy and wiped away pretty easily too. Left a nice wet, glossy look---nice stuff!

cancel that......... I just re-read the thread! Sorry.

I just got a sample of OID in trade and did a quick use. It behaves more like a spray wax so you have to do a little extra wiping to remove it but nothing extraordinary. It is not as light as a true cleaner like ONR or Meg's QD. OID seems to offer less than a spray wax for about the same effort and price so I still plan to go for the spray wax if I want true slickness and gloss enhancement.

use this product on damp car and you will notice immediate slickness and no real ability to buff more than a quick wipe. Likely the additional water is helping the product and really looks nice.

Hi all;

Sorry I haven't updated this thread.

I've done a few more tests with Optimum Instant Detailer: undiluted on dry, clean paint; undiluted on wet, clean paint; diluted 2 OID : 1 H20 on dry clean paint; and diluted on dry, dusty paint.

Diluted was far and away the best. It left no streaks, wiped away clean, and left a nice shine, albeit a little plasticky. It required no buffing like the undiluted version.

David Ghodoussi insisted their quality-control is absolute, so it's probably a stretch to say my bottle of OID was off-formula. Who knows. Either way I prefer the product this way and I'm using it as my daily ID.

Ok, I just got the concentrated 32 oz. bottle of this and I cut it 3 parts water to 1 part OID as directions instruct. I have no idea why someone would buy the 16 oz. premixed version for 9.99 when they can get the concentrate that makes 1 gallon of the same thing for 19.99:confused:. After using this product tonight, it has moved to the top level of my quick detailer arsenal, right up there with FK1 and one or two others. One or two mists per panel wiped away with a guzzler gave me instant gratification......slickness out the yahoo and gloss were immediately noticeable, especially slickness. It was incredibly easy to use and required the same, if not less, wiping as other quick detailers to a streak free, glossy finish. It wiped away immediately with no smearing what so ever. To say the least, I'm extremely happy with this purchase and would highly recommend it to everyone. If you don't like it, send it to me!! Oh, I forgot to mention it smells great too(some kind of bubble gum/candy smell---smells sweet!). On another note, I also got some Optimum Spray wax which I'm equally impressed with----very easy to use with great results. 4 star spray wax was also on my order which was a pleasure to use as well. Both produced and very glossy, slick finish with little effort. All of these are great products!!! Just thought I'd add my 2 cents to this discussion and hope I clarified some things. Get the 32 oz bottle and mix it yourself----8 oz.(1 cup) of OID and 24 oz.(3 cups) of water make 32 oz. of this product which costs $19.99 per gallon----it's a no brainer!

I would have given you my OID, but I already gave it to someone else. Not a bad product just not as good as XXX.

Optimum, Four Star, FK425, Quickshine, and Crystal Mist are still some of my fav qd'er+ type products. Sonus had an acrylic one too.

Was looking for a new QD after almost out of Meg UQD. With intentions of trying OID I read this thread and was mainly concerned because I also use P21S 100%. But after so many positives and few negatives I gave it a try for myself.

I got the self-deluting size. I have to say that it worked great. Easy on and easy off. Just as easy as the Meg. and overall I like the slick surface after the fact better. The megs maybe feels a little "slicker/thicker" to the touch but the OID left a very nice feeling and looking surface.

Definitely glad I have it and will surely use it a lot.

I don't usually jump onto new products; I always wait for the hype to calm down.

I got a quart when OID first came out; diluted it 3:1 accordingly and LOVE IT. Works perfectly even in full sun for me.

Works great on 'nubas and sealants. Has worked well over Natty's Blue; Red; and Pinn. Sig. and Souveran with no issues at all.

Really adds to the look as well; especially on brighter solid colors (red and even white).

You know I had the same problem (streaking) over blue nattys. I switched to FK425 and what a difference, my paint (Ford Focus pitch black) looks sharper plus way less dusting (IMO)...I no longer use Optimum QD, don't take me wrong great product just not for me...

Yeah, I see what you guys mean. I had no streaking until I used it on top of a coat of Collinite 915 and it streaked a little bit. Guess it doesn't play well with some nubas.

I just received my recent order which included OPT QD. (I ordered the 32 oz. For the price per gallon its hard to beat). I used it on my silver Yaris and it worked extremely well. I have most of the major QDs and this one ranks at the top. I have yet to try 425 though.

Try using a 3:1 ratio of OID and OCW on those finishes which streak.....or mix in some ONR with your OID (all 3 products are cross compatible) with about the same ratio and see how that works for you.

I use OID as I give cars a ONR wash. Either before I NR a panel or after I NR a panel I'll spray that panel down with some OID and then continue as usual. Adds slickness, gloss and ease of use.

Happy detailing,
Anthony

Anthony, would that be 3:1 of straight OID:OCW and 3:1 of straight OID:ONR, no water added?

And I assume you mean Optimum Car Wash, not Car Wax, when you say OCW, correct? :)

I mixed the 3:1 with a diluted OID and yes I meant the car wax, not the car wash.

Mix some OID with your car wax and you'll get a wonderful QD with enhanced UV protection. Also you can mix as you like or see fit. My ratio is based on my personal preference.

Anthony, thank you for the clarification :)

I did this yesterday - 1/3 OID with 2/3 OCW and I rather like the results. Nice feel.
