I just recently tried out my orbital on the car I drove in high school that has been sitting outside in the backyard for over 5 years. I hasn't been touched since. When I drove it I kept it up very well, so it wasn't totally neglected. Any way, I used a LC cutting pad meant for my D/A, and 1z Ultra Paint Polish. I have never used the orbital before, so I gave it a try. It wasn't as hard as I thought, but I still have alot to learn before I use it on someonelses, I did one or two sections and the end result was amazing. It looked better than the car I drive know. Like I said befor I used a pad for my D/A so I need to get the right pads. Are their any differences in pads for an orbital, other than size? What would be a good setup to buy to get started.
Thanks

Be careful with that orbital. It's bad news if you damage it.

An orbital and a foam pad are worthy for use on oxidized cars when using lower speeds and safely staying away from corners where paint could be lighter. Moving to an orbital and a wool pad usually makes quicker work of oxidation and blemishes, but is seriously best left to a professional as it transfer alot of heat. Stay focused and lets us know the thoughts on the rotary with some more trials.

I hear that any combo used on a d/a is taken a step further when you use a orbital, like a light cutting pad on a d/a and a mild swirl remover would equal to say a cutting pad with a heavy swirl remover. Is this right? And if I were to use an orbital on my car for removing stubborn swirls, which combo would you suggest? I was thinking maybe ssr 2.5 with a polishing pad or should I use something else?
Thanks

the true difference between rotary and ROB is speed. Pad choices and polish can stay the same in most instances. You need to use the PC at 5.5-6 to make any real results, whereas with rotary you would want to stay below 2000rpms max. (1400-1800 average)

Thanks for the advice. If I decide to try it I'll let ya know how it turns out.
