Car - 1991 Supra 7MGTE

Paint - Original OEM Single Stage Red (non clear coat)

Condition - Decent, been in a barn all its life - 36k original miles but the car is covered in tiny swirls.

Goal #1- Correct and preserve paint as best I can

Goal #2 - Prepare car for upcoming "car show" season
Tools - PC7424
Products - Wolfgang Swirl Remover (Orange Pad), Final Finishing Glaze (White Pad), 2 coats Deep Gloss Paint Sealant (Gray Pad), Wet Obsession Carnuba Wax as Final coat(s) by hand. All products will be removed with Cobra MF towel by hand. All my pads are LC

I plan to wash and clay as my initial plan of attack. But I want to ensure I use the right product in the correct order to get the best results possible. I know this is a trial and error and I do plan to check my progress along the way.

Question #1 - Should I use the Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer prior to the Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0? Or... Will the Swirl Remover and Finishing Glaze serve the same purpose in cleaning the paint prior to sealant?

Question #2 - Most of the data I have read on this board applies to paint that contains a clear coat. With my paint being single stage, are there any variations to the correct process for single stage paint that I need to be aware of. If anyone has ane experiance with old single stage Toyota paint, speak up please.

Also - Any other criticism of the process I have tried to explain is certainly welcome as I am a total newbie.
BTW - I do plan on practicing on my old SUV beater before I touch my car. Better safe than sorry...

I would try the TSR with a white pad first. If that works then the Finishing glaze(nano polish) with a gray pad.

If you need to use the orange pad, I would make it a 3 step(orange, white and gray/blue). You are doing a car show right? The white pad can leave a little micro marring. Plus for the show, you want it to pop. Finish with some 85RD or megs 205.

As for the paint enhancer. If you do the 3 step, then no. The 85RD or 205 will finish down great. For a 2 step, it can only help.

I don't know about single stage paint.
 
The Polish Enhancer comes before the sealant. I used it on my 64 red Stingray and it looks great after using Menz 203 and 87 MC. The paint looked great but the polish enhancer really brought out the richness and depth of the color. I think you'll like it on your single stage red.

If you have it go ahead and use it. If you don't like the look of it you can always remove it and go with something else.

The pics I have of the 64 don't show very well. Even under halogens they came out dark. I'll get some good pics soon.
 
Ok, I did the Wolfgang TSR and still have swirls. I used Orange Pad, and White Pad. The white pad did offer better results and the car looks 10 times better so that is what I finished the entire car out with.

I did also do one 2 x 2 patch on the door with some Wolfgang finishing glaze and a gray pad and got even better results but the swirls still present.

I have looked at the videos on breaking down the polish on youtube plus here on this site. I know I am a newbie but I think this single stage paint is tough to get right. I did a sample process on my black ford xplo hood and it came out looking brand new.

I just dont know guys, any help would be appreciated.
 
The orange pad will induce marring. That is normal. You can use the TSR again or wolfgang finishing glaze on a white pad to get rid of that marring. Then shine the paint with the glaze on a gray/blue pad.

What are you using? PC or Flex?
 
I am using a PC. I am going to try the Wolfgang Glaze agian on the gray pad in the morning.
