So my engine tuner and builder Don Kinder of Slowhawk performance in Bridgewater has been tinkering with this Nocturn blue 79 TA. Like most he can never leave it stock so out came the 301/4speed and in went a A/A Vortec supercharged LS motor with a 6 speed. This car is a blast to drive. Fun fast and loud!

This car is pretty clean considering the age. Especially the original camel colored interior.

The single stage metallic paint was a swirled mess and definitely needed some brightening. Given the age some things couldn't be fixed. Like the front and rear bumpers and some of the ground effects.

Foamed wash with Hyper wash.

Decon with nanoskin handy towel

Wheels/tires- McKee foaming wheel cleaner gel, LATA, Hyper dressing

Paint- M100/M205- Rupes Duetto/swirl killer mini

Lsp- High Def Paint Sealant

Interior- Mckees 70/30 leather shampoo, IGL dash uv protectant, McKees carpet and upholstery cleaner

After wash and decon

Couple things here:

1. Love the modern sized snowflakes

2. Has 3 pedals

3. Great color

Well done

Sweet. There is something about the depth of the metallic on colors from the 70's and 80's before clear coat came around.

nice work. car looks good.

any issues working that paint with the Megs?

Here's my comments besides, great job and cool car....

When the owners of cars like these are fortunate to have guys like you restore the original paint on cars this old they are LUCKY!

To have someone take a wool pad and rotary buffer to vintage single stage metallic paint would have more tha likely destroyed it besides filling it with holograms and then to remove the holograms would require removing more paint.

Nice work, cool car!

Where's the picture showing blue paint on your buffing pad?

:)

Awesome car! One of my favs growing up as a kid... Although I was partial to the 77/78 years. Amazing work!
It must have been difficult polishing around that huge thunder-chicken on the hood w/out nicking it... What did you use to clean that up?

Thanks Mike! Your absolutely right about dealing with vintage single stage paint.

As for the pic of the pad I completely spaced out but don't worry. My cutting pad was white and is permanently stained blue lol.

TBH I just went right near it and even over it a bit. Then went over the whole thing with m205 and a Rupes yellow pad. Glossed it right up. If it was freshly restored and mint I definitely wouldn't have done that. But it will be going in for body restoration in the fall.

Beautiful work on that vintage muscle! Bridgewater's now more beautiful!!!

Looks great. I got to do a 79 a few months back. It's all original and only has 900 miles on it. It was sitting in a warehouse for years and I was able to be the first one to bring it back to life. Last pic is sitting in showroom.
