I was browsing online and happened across this pic and just had to wince when I saw it. Figured I'd share it with you guys. Be forewarned - it's pretty graphic. :eek:

I think I might cry. :cry: The caption underneath the picture read: Photo of a black 1966 Chevrolet Caprice 2 Door Hardtop Coupe at the Scottsdale Pavilions Classic Car Show in Arizona. How sad. A show car without a show car finish. What an injustice.
 
I've seen a lot of those in the flesh during car shows. It really is a sight for sore eyes. Especially the out door shows when the sun hits the paint...tada cobwebs all over.
 
Sadly, it's pretty typical at almost all car shows. Hey, it keeps you guys in business!
 
i have seen cars just as bad at World Of Wheels and Hot Import Nights. it is disgusting. i seem to always get into atleast 1 disagreement when i see someone wipe their car to remove dust and all they are using is a MF( no spray) and i tell them "do you realize you just marred you paint?" then when i show them how bad it actually looks they dont like that. i try to give them tips but they never listen. just as bad as my kids think they know it all and wont take any advice
 
I say that this weekend when I went to a car show. The cars looked horrible with all the swirls that it had. I think that there wasn't a car that wasn't swirled.
 
I went to one car show last year, and all but maybe one or two were swirled up. Probably 200-300 cars. I'm sure part of it is people just don't know what they don't know. They think that swirls are just a part of the deal. Before I discovered car care forums, I thought the same thing. I saw the swirls, but didn't pay any attention to them.

Most people don't like to be called out. It may be that they know it's not the best way to do it and they're too lazy to change. It may be that they didn't know and feel stupid when being informed that they're wrecking their finish. When I went to that car show I mentioned, I got into a couple conversations and found out what people were using and talked about what I use. If they're at a car show, most likely they want their car to look its best, so I just try to create a relationship before I even talk about how they could improve. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Funny you should mention world of wheels...when it was here in Atlanta early this month, it was terrible for me to walk around. Almost ALL the cars there were heavily swirled or hologramed. Hell there was a company there called "Flynn's Detailing" and his personal vehicles and all the vehicles with his logo's on them were in TERRIBLE condition.
 
you would think they would know how to take care of paint or how have someone do it for them especially since the money the paint job costs. why even get it painted if you cant take care of it? idiots...
 
Show car? Looks more like the ghetto kids rolling down the street by my work!

it was real hard for me to. even my 7 year old daughter looked at me one time and said " daddy dont he know he is scrachting his paint". but then again on weekends i have my kids first 2 questions i get asked is "can we clean your car and where is the car show". i have created monsters already. lmao
 
All you guys have hit the nail so on the head. So many car shows are full of cars with beautiful paint jobs and abused paint finishes. I just don't get it, you spend 5 or 10k for a super job and forget about upkeep.
