Our Trip to Mobile Tech Expo

I wish they would came to Charlotte NC or any expo for that matter.

Looks like fun.
 
I just got back from today's events at the Expo. I was able to meet Toto and saw a few other familiar faces from various forums. I attended two seminars- the first was with Jason Rose, from Meguiar's, talking about detailing tools and then one from Randy Lowe, from Custom Detailing, talking about RV detailing with a demonstration by Tom Horvath from System One. After the seminars the Expo was open with all of the vendors I listed on the other page. I was pretty overwhelmed with all of the products and information because a lot of it was tailored to PDR and mobile refinishing/repair people. I got a lot of fliers and catalogs with a ton of great information. I also spent some time talking with Aaron from Edge and David G. from Optimum. Both are great guys with a lot of great products. Aaron went through the whole Edge system for me including their new (to me) industrial adaptor and foam conditioning brush. David G went through all of Optimum's new products coming out as well, including: a wheel and tire cleaner (APC) which can be diluted up to 3:1, a carpet cleaner & protectant- all in one (very interesting!), a new QD gloss enchancer, a new tire dressing/coating, and an updated version of OCW. He had a panel with the new OCW dried on it and there was a nice layer of carnauba... just like a paste wax. It was easily removable as well... Sorry for the long post, I figured it'd be interesting for those who were unable to attend.

I didn't take any pictures inside the Expo, Meghan took care of that :) but here are a few quick pics at the RV Seminar.

Here is the before condition of the class C RV- lots of oxidation and black streaks, nothing major:

And here is Tom using his X3 on the oxidation with a wool pad:

The System One X3 did a nice job on the oxidation. A wool pad with the X3 easily cut through the oxidation with a rotary polisher. He then flipped the pad over to a polishing pad and with the same product he resorted more gloss and made the finish quite reflective. It was misting/foggy so up close pictures didn't come out great. I would have liked to see the X3 be used on an oxidized/yellowed fiberglass/gel coat rather than painted aluminum like on this rig. But it's always nice to see a new product in use. A lot of people ask about pricing RV's-- here is Randy's formula: Length of RV divided by 2 multiplied by your hourly rate. He also mentioned something about $16-20 a foot as well...

I also got to see some PDR guys in action... I had no clue what they were doing but it was working! It's very cool to be able to remove dents without damage. I doubt I'd be able to learn/remember all of the proper techniques. There are like 200 different PDR tools for all types of dents.

You should get goodwill ambassador pay for all the things you do at autogeek. I love the pictures, you must love your job with all the work you do. I saw a picture of Aaron from Edge pads in your thread and I tell other people I work with about how good he was working on a truck hood at geekfest 2. I would love to get that good at polishing then I would feel qualified to advise people I know with paint problems instead of saying I can give it a try.
 
Does anyone that attended remember a price that maybe the fast shelters started at?

Elastrafoam Clay Block, does 10-20 vehicles. Can be dropped and rinsed off to be used again. EConomical, and may professionals have found it's performs as well as regular Clay. Product came out last Summer and is available if you dig around.

To be honest with you, yes I do love my job! We all have a great time, its nice to enjoy driving to work, and hanging out on this forum with all of you is alright too! :p

We do have a great time and this is a great place to work. I enjoyed my weekend out of town and I actually looked forward to getting back in town so I could get back to the forums get back into the swing of things.

Max, Meghan and all of our team are great to work with!

It was a great experience to visit the Mobile Tech Expo and meet some of our vendors and forum members there. Next stop, Detail Fest!
