One thing I would like some input on, and hopefully mike can shed some light on this. The owner says this is single stage paint, 1991 E30 BMW. Is that correct? If so, I'd like to meet him at his house the evening before and condition the paint.
What are the best options for that?
#7 Show Car Glaze all the way. Hand apply a wet or heavy coat and let it saturate into the paint over night. Then use clean, soft microfiber or terry cloth towels to remove and then start your correction and polishing steps.
If you're going to apply a wax or sealant, (something you don't have to chemically strip in order to use), then apply a thin coat of the #7 before applying the wax to re-gorge the paint.
One of the things the oils in the #7 do is to,
Bring out the full richness of color
It's a very specific component in these oils that does this magic that no other product has equaled since the time of the Ford Model T.
Even Barry Meguiar and Wayne Carini agree on this topic.

Be sure to shake the product well before using and since my guess is the paint on this car is already in good to excellent condition then apply by hand using foam applicator pads, like the little round pads you apply a wax with.
I'd lean towards a finishing wax for red single stage paint.
Don't ever worry about asking questions I do all the time. And if you get answers you don't like then simply remember to always take the high road.
