Over/Under Hyped products?

List some products you think are either over hyped or are given too much credit for, and other products that you think are over looked and dont get the respect they deserve!

(Im sure Im missing a lot on both ends. Thats why I need ur help!)

Under hyped: Amazing Roll-Off best damn APC I have ever used !

Underhyped:

Duragloss 105
most of poorboys stuff (I think the name turns some people off to the products?)
Hi-temp line, almost all of it
OPT Protectant and Tire Shine
Megs professional line of polishes (like #80 Speed Glaze)
magic eraser
purple power (strong APC)

Overhyped:

Zaino
most carnauba waxes that are expensive, especially when people throw a hundred layers on to get the look that Nubas are famous for

Not sure I would consider DG underhyped, their products were pretty hyped up in the last year, and luckily they stood up to the Hype:righton:.

NXT was pry the biggest let down, was made to sound like it was the next great thing....bought it, used it, thought it sucked lol.

-Most pinnacle products...only one that I have used and like was the leather conditioner (haven't used either Sov.)
-Stoner's IG...found a similar product locally less than half the price
-DG Aquawax...I don't know why just doesn't please me

UH
-Four * products...used a few of them and liked them
-OPT Protectant plus...starting to catch the hype it deserves
-Pinnacle Leather conditioner...works awesomely

Nattys Red : I've really given this a good test and wanted to like it but it just didnt impress me.
NXT: If I had the time to wax my truck once a week I would love this stuff. Unfotunatly the initial wow shine that it produces just doesnt last.

303: love this product but a bit pricey here in Canada
Collinite 845 : Why dont more people use this wax . I love it. I'm going to try the colinite 915. Any comments on this wax.
Sonus Trim and Motor Coat : Another great but pricey product. I use it on the plastic wheel wells of my truck and on the motor and it gives a nice gloss and lasts longer than I would have thougt cosidering the conditions.

Natty's Red - results did not impress me and was not that easy to remove.
UDM - Can't be that much better than the PC and if the paint is that bad I will just use my rotary.
Ultima - not only do I feel it is over hyped but I also believe it is overpriced.

Simple Green - What can't you use it for? Also the price is cheap!!!
Optimum Car wash - This stuff never stops sudding and cleans the paint real well.
Sprayway glass cleaner - can get it anywhere and does a real good jog of getting all windows nice and clean (tint safe also).
 
Over:

Every Optimum Product I've tried so far (Poli-Seal, Compound, and Car Wax)
Zaino - I've seen it in action but not actually used it myself not impressed at all
P21S Concours Wax - SO unimpressed by the look of this wax
Leatherique- did not perform any better than any other leather system I've used and actually made my leather crack more than before

Under:

Every DP product I've tried most of the DP line and the only products that didn't really impress me were DP Auto Bath Shampoo (very average if not poor) and DP Premium Surface Shield (just good not great).

Meguiar's Detailer Line - every product I try out of this line amazes me and is extremely cost effective. So far I've used Wheel Brightener, APC, Safe D-Greaser, and Body Solvent.

Optimum Car Wash - after Poorboy's SS&S this is the best shampoo out there IMO but is significantly cheaper than the PB's. The other Optimum products get hyped SO much, but I think this might be the best thing in the whole line up.

Menzerna PO106FF and PO85RD - there two polishes get a lot of hype, but IMO they live up to it and then some. Far and away these are the two best finishing polishes money can buy IMO. Nothing else finishes out as finely as these polishes. So, they leave the sharpest looking shine possible.

NTS7 Glass Shield - no one ever talks about NTS7 but the Glass Shield is the best glass cleaner out there IMO. It's so easy to use. It cleans great and takes little effort to buff away. It never leaves streaks but does leave behind a Rain-X like coating on the glass which repels water. After cleaning the inside and outside of my windshield with NTS7 GS it looks like there's nothing there. It's kind of scary.

Well lets see. I will be making this list of my personal experiences and what I've noted on the forums over the past 3 years (products that caused a lot of hoopla that don't get talked about much anymore)... Also, just because they may be overhyped, doesn't mean they are terrible products...

Over hyped:
-FK425
-Zaino C/s, ZAIO
-High Temp Extreme cut
-Expensive carnaubas
-CG stuff
-Foam gun / cannon

Under hyped:
-Poorboy's Pro Polish
-Eagle One wheel and tire wash
-Folex
-Poorboy's DMT / DC's Prestige MF towels

That's all I can think of for now...
 
Oh yeah! I would like to add to my "over hyped" list . . .

The foam gun - still trying to figure out what I would use this for except to lube the surface for claying.

Poorboy's Leather Stuff - there was a lot of hype surrounding this product when it was released and personally I was not happy with it's performance.

NXT wax... you have no idea how dissapointed i was after reading sooo much BS about it and after eyeing it a million times at Advance, Pepboys and walmart, i finally got it, tried it and was soo dissapointed at how cheap it was and how i had to sit there getting rid of the streaks with QD..

.. Sorry to you Pinnacle fans but a lot of it is OH.. and overpriced.. specially the crystal mist QD...

Poorboy's products. specially natty's blue.
DP products. speically their 4 in 1..

and my personal favorite, aqua wax. Leave a bottle of this stuff in my trunk.

That's all people talk about in my area. Have not used the product myself. I don't think stuff last, because this guy at work use it and the slickness was gone with in a week.

Over: Zaino, although I have to say that after you go through all the 59 steps, it does turn out pretty nice on my vehicles!!!

Under: Poorboys Natural Look, Folex, Simple Green, Woolite, 5.5" pads

You really think Pinnacle Products are overhyped? Used all three and all three performed THE BEST in its class. Maybe Griots garage is a little better bang for the buck, but I'm sure it's not as good as Pinnacle.

Zaino Z2Pro/Z8 by far
Menzerna polishes (because of their limited working window)

Underhyped:
Mothers brand in its entirety
Turtle Wax Platinum Ultra Gloss waxes - killer stuff
Meg's 80-series polishes
Meg's #26, especially paste
OP/OC/OHC
Collinite 845/476 as beauty waxes
FK1 FX-100

Living up to the hype:
FK1 425
HTEC
Erazer clay
Poli-Seal
Opti-Seal
ONR
Meg's #21
Victoria Waxes

Liking this thread! Here's my list:

Overhyped:
Zaino -so many other products available that can deliver comparable results at a much lower price point.

Underhyped:
WG leather cleaner and leather conditioner
Optimum line, specifically Optimum wash and Poli-Seal. Their wash is really under-rated IMO. Poli-Seal is my go-to product for my lower price-point details, and gives me great results in a short time.

The best part is reading one post and seeing a product listed as "under hyped" and then in the very next post another person lists it as "over hyped." :D

Just goes to show you how personal preference comes into play and the different goals of hobbyists vs. professional detailers.

You are right ! I do not see where the UDM or Ultima are over hyped ?
Then again I may be stuck in the garage too much ;)
