I recently placed my first order with AutoGeeks because I heard good things from various people and the very competitive prices they offered. After placing my order I received an e-mail requesting an additional 78.00 for shipping charges, due to oversized items being shipped internationally. Most sites would have this configured at the checkout, so you're not wasting the customers time completing an order only to find out they want an additional 78.00 on an order of 167.00.

I called AutoGeeks only to be directed to the person who is in charge of international orders. I left a message never to receive a return phone call. I had to call again the next day to speak with this person. I was told that my package is overweight and additional fees were needed. In the e-mail I received, it said"***PLEASE NOTE: Gallons are considered over-sized items due to size and weight.***" I mentioned that I would eliminate the Megiuar's items that were 128oz, but I was again told me that the 3 liter jugs of Lexol might be considered overweight now as well? They would have to process the order first to see if any additional shipping fees existed.

I'd just like to place an order, but it seems like a lot of hassle waiting to be notified if your shipment is overweight. Next thing I'll be told that 16oz bottles are overweight when shipped to Canada..

So let me get this right (a little recap)....

You are taking issues with AG because you are dealing with product(s) that by the standards of the SHIPPING COMPANY is considered oversized or overweight and therefore cost more to ship internationally... did I get this right?

If I did..... then ANY distributor you would have dealt with would have pass on the extra shipping cost to you. AG is extremely dedicated to providing the best price and their customer service is outstanding. Your experience does not deny that. I don't see any fault with AG or AG's customer service in passing on that extra shipping cost to you. They are merely applying the rules and regulations and cost imposed on them by the SHIPPER.

I believe AG is going out of their way to even consider shipping internationally. To have a dedicated AG person for international shipping is proof they they are not fooling around and proof that they are dedicated to their international consumer base.

The only way that I could put merit to your complaint would be if AG was padding the shipping cost, which they don't!.

I would love to give you validation on your rant about them knowing the EXACT cost at the EXACT time you place your order HOWEVER this is frankly ridiculous and unrealistic (unless they were overshooting on a padded quote, which they don't!). The only way for them to know the exact shipping cost is to pack and check. They cannot anticipate the size and weight of your final package(s) unless they are pulled from the shelves. I am not in the warehouse or part of the team but I would venture a guess that they try to MINIMIZE the cost by looking at different shipping combinations.

As an international customer, would you rather have multiple single unit packages (which they can figure the exact size, weight and shipping cost ahead of time for your location), and end up over paying because they are not combining their shipment or would you rather have a team of people looking for the most economical way of shipping your products (and not know right away what it cost)?

I'm fortunate to have a very good life, so I never have any complaints.

However...
Just as you seemingly are in your OP, phillmatchett...
I'm faced, sometimes, with existential angst.

Im the MAN

Welcome to AGO!!

AG is the worst place I know for ordering gallons size shipped to Canada... look around, some retailers charge less...

Wrong place to complain

+1
I don't know what u expect really.. anywhere is going to charge extra to ship internationally..your not going to get anyone here on your side sorry everyone here knows from experience that AG goes well more than outta their way to ensure that not only are their prices (shipping included) the cheapest ANYWHERE and if not guarantee to beet it, but they also go beyond the call of duty or even more than they should to ensure that EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER is 100% happy. And if not do all they can to make u happy. Not even to mention giving u a free gift EVERY SINGLE TIME u spend $50, on top of sales, and constant NON STOP EVERY DAY sales buy one get one freebies.

Honestly I've never bought anything from any other company EVER that sells anything from toothpicks to automobiles never bought anything at all from a company who was so dedicated to giving me everything they could for my money. And then after getting my money still being there for anything I need from changing my order to walking me through step by step how to use what I bought..

If your upset with AG your THE ONLY ONE I'm sure.. you are surly the only one here. If you don't like them obviously taking steps to get u the cheapest shipping price they can by emailing u about after u ordered then I urge u go see if you can find another US supplier who can do it cheaper..
But get this.... IF U DO.... just email AG the link and get this...

THEY WILL STILL BEAT IT!!!
WOW honestly do u think it gets better than that?? NOPE!!

Well said

I don't know man. I'm with you. I've ordered stuff from overseas many times and have never had this type of problem - including gallon bottles. Once you check out, that should be it. Other companies have systems that know the weight of each item and can calculate shipping based on weight.

On the very least, it shouldn't let you check out and pay if your address is over seas until you talk to someone. You budget, buy, check out, and pay - THEN they ask you for more money???

I would find a local seller.

guess you are not international... cause they just don't price match on shipping international! last time I told them I could get it cheaper, I was told to get it there, cause they won't ship it for cheaper than was quoted...

From Autogeek's Customer Service FAQ:

What are the shipping rates for Canada?

Shipping rates includes Handling, Packing and Insurance. In order to make it simple for you, we charge one low delivery charge based on the total value of your order.

Prices do not include duties, taxes, or brokerage fee. Consult your local customs authorities to determine if any imports tariffs apply.
These rates DO NOT APPLY to Special Order Items like BLT Mats, WeatherTech, ParkSmart Mats and Highland. * Gallons or oversized packages may require additional shipping charges. We will contact you for approval before shipment if additional shipping charges apply. These items include, but are not limited to: buffers, complete wash systems, and vacuums.

I don't live international and have ordered gallons and dealt with that BS too. The sad part is that it's NOT UPS, it's all Autogeek. I've purchased and shipped gallons of various liquids all over the country UPS with no "oversize" or "overweight" issues ever! Shipping is all about size and weight of the box and its final destination. As long as you are not violating the list of things that UPS ships then they dont care whats in the box. FWIW I have shipped a pair of big block Chevy cast iron cylinder heads next day air to Florida for half of what I paid for my last orders shipping that had 2 gallons in it. I had to have the stuff ASAP as some unexpected work popped up and I made plenty of money off it to cover the expense but I learned my lesson and won't make that mistake again!

Like I said I live in USA. I just got killed so bad on shipping because of the gallons of product. It was so excessive that someone saw my unpacking pictures here and the shipping cost on the invoice and sent me a PM about it! Like I also said I knew it up front and ate the fees as cost of doing business as there was high paying work to be done.

I buy gallons and gallons of product from Autogeek and I have never had issues with shipping prices, I'm in Florida also, and if you have a problem you can simply buy elsewhere.Don't hop on the wagon with this guy and bash Autogeek.

If u don't like what they do why be part of them by being on this forum

So quick question to all in the mainland (48 continental states), do you incur additional charges on gallon products as well?

I just in the past 2 weeks bought:

128oz CG V7 Chemical Guys V7 Optical Select High Gloss Spray Sealant Detailer 128 oz. Refill
128oz CG Blacklight Chemical Guys Black Light Hybrid Radiant Finish 128 oz., paint sealant, car wax
128oz CG Mr. Pink Chemical Guys Mr. Pink Super Suds Shampoo Superior Surface Cleanser
128oz Pinnacle Crystal Clear Pinnacle Crystal Clear Glass Cleaner with Water Repellent

I live in South Louisiana and all these products were shipped with no oversized/overweight charges.

As another member informed me, there's a local detailing shop (PakShak) that has a pretty decent selection if AG's shipping to Hawaii is too much (and their markup is surprisingly minimal).

In the $160 AG order I placed Monday, shipping was ~$25 including two 32oz. bottles and two Grit Guards! I inquired with Meghan, and she gave me a 10% Discount code since all the "Free Shipping!" discounts shun Hawaii and Alaska. Better than nothing.

I appreciate all the feedback. At least the message board has great customer service. As I stated before, I heard good things about AG. That's why I ended up here. I'm not saying my situation is horrid by any means, but I expected a little more. I've bought hundreds of items and I have very rarely ever been hit with such a substantial additional shipping cost after finalizing my order. The funds were already withdrawn from my account.

I received an e-mail from Auto Geeks requesting addition funds from me because my order was over-sized. It stated that 4L containers are subjected to addition fees sometimes. When I contacted customer support they told me the same thing. But after I proposed eliminating the two 4L jugs and finalizing the rest of my order I was told that 3L jugs might be subjected to further payment!? I just never really dealt with this type of shipping arrangement. One more try I guess..
