Looking at picking up an ozone machine soon, but still a little hesitant. Do they really work? I get a lot of musty odors in cars up here in WA and would love to get them smelling great again. A lot of the odors are hidden in the interior panels and just can't be reached. Ozone or no? Right now I'll use a Megs AiRefresh bomb but wonder about the long-term effectiveness of them.

Thanks Geeks!!

Mike

I've been researching these lately as well. Prices from $39.99 to $699! I don't mind landing in the middle somewhere if I can charge an extra $25-$50 per detail to help pay for it. But it has always sounded like a gimmick to me, "magically turn on this machine for an hour and viola!!" I'll be interested to hear from someone with experience using them.

I use the ozone machine now in every interior detail I do. I'll run it for maybe 10 to 15 minutes at the end of the detail while I'm packing up. Because of this, I've gotten so many reviews about how nice there car smells. Really leaves a fresh smell, and customers comment almost every time. I think I paid about $250 for mine on Amazon. I get a lot of business with this machine.

^^ this.

I use mine on every detail. If the car is really bad I'll run several cycles through it as I work on the outside. What's been great is that when customers comment on it, and notice their windows are perfect (I always clean inside of windows) I remind them that I can make the interior like new too. It's lead to more business for me and where it doesn't it's just as impactful to customers.

yes....it works really well and the unit pay itself....i charge between 50 and 75 per tratment and have 0 issues or complains

I use one for my hunting clothes. They are amazing at getting the odors out of them.

if I were to get one itd be this one

[h=1]Stainless Steel Commercial UV Ozone Generator Air Purifier 7000 MG Industrial Strength New Comfort 5 Year Warranty[/h]
New Comfort

use the earning from that service to save up for a drivepur unit, which is about 1200ish

I should just refresh my Wifi....
Only cars I touch are my own personal, which are pretty well maintained...

AFAIK, you can't run ozone in a car for too long , as it will degrade the leather, if memory recalls. With that said, does that mean long exposures to such ozone generators is not good for a vehicles interior, but short term exposures is fine ? Or is it more kinda lika wheel acid....aka, it does the job but it's pretty harsh.

Yeah, it's an oxident..
No one really can say how equates to long exposure...But on one post so.eone threw out like 8 -9 hrs...

Most I'd do would be a 30 mins session
But I k ow it'll make the car kind of smell like chlorine...To me anyways

8-9 hr ?

If memory recalls, I think the general rule was 1-2 Hr MAX. Anything like 8 hrs was harmful to the interior...
So for those are in the know, I'd be curious

Let's say 2 Hrs 1 Session.
Running 9 Hrs is not good for the Interior.
What about 4 sessions at 2 Hrs each. What degrading effects may it have >

I paid about $125 for one on ebay. Love it! Used it on a smoker's car. Superb results.

I sell an ozone treatment as an add on to my interior details. I will not ozone an interior unless I've detailed it first. Reason being the source of the odor needs to be removed or the ozone will just mask it temporarily.

It works amazing and definitely kills odors and leaves a fresh scent, think of the smell in the air just after a thunderstorm passes, just more potent. The scent will linger for a couple days but eventually clears out. I tell my customers to make sure to leave all the windows and doors open for a minimum one hour before entering the vehicle.

I believe they work by converting oxygen atoms (O2) into ozone (O3) through use of an electric current. I believe it's the same effect as lightning in the atmosphere (hence the similar scent as a thunderstorm). The ozone (O3) naturally converts back to oxygen (O2) and is completely harmless. Don't be mistaken though. ozone (O3) is not safe and you should not breathe it.

They work very well and can be picked up for relatively cheap. I believe I got mine for about $80 off amazon. I do recommend you do some google searching to educate yourself on them so you have the knowledge to explain to clients what the process really is and how it works and all.

how long is one session? 15 minutes while you pack everything up? or 30?

Typically an hour. Hour and a half at most if it's really bad or larger vehicles (small generator). If it needs more than that, then you didn't clean well enough first

I also have one of the $80 units from Amazon, and it works great. Works great in rooms in the house for getting rid of musty odors and cigarette odors too.

I too have the cheap $70 or 80 unit from amazon. I bought it to have for the new year. I have used it a ton in my house. I have 3 dogs and the weather goes from frozen ground to rain to frozen ground so I pick up some dog scent every now and again. I run it on my first floor for 2 hours at time, my first floor is like 1400 sq feet and does the whole floor. I put it in the laundry room in my basement, another 1200 or so sq ft and let it run. You'd never know I have 3 dogs, except the dust bunnies of fur in the corners.
